Was just on my way home from work & a stone hits the screen, there was me thinking great ! Maybe a new screen, will the insurance replace with an original Audi screen i m with elephant & own an S3 (02).

Theres a small chip no bigger than a ball point pen tip & tiny a few cracks overall diameter no bigger than 5mm probably less & its in the drivers view.

Any tips or advice would be useful.

    Thanks

I'd say they're less likely to attempt a repair, even though the damage sounds like it is repairable, given that it's in the driver's normal field of view. I had a cracked one replaced when they were going to repair it, just by asking the chap who came to look at it. Of course a less scrupulous person might give it a careful tap or two to ensure a replacement ;)

    Regards,

well to be honest i would prefer a repair due to the fact your breaking the factory seal & i doubt i ll get an orignal audi replacement through the insurance.

I'm sure autoglass can repair small stone chips, I think you'd be better of repairing it, when I bought my S3 it didn't have an original Audi windscreen I had terrible trouble with water coming into the passenger footwell, As it was under warranty it went back to audi 3 times and in the end they changed the windscreen telling me that the leak was due to the windscreen not being an original audi one.

Touch wood it hasn't leaked since

I must say I wasn't unfortunate with leaks etc. - but I suppose I didn't consider it as much as this was for a puddle-jumping golf I had for a very short space of time; if it was my Audi I guess I too would be a little more careful with the repair/replace issue.

You honestly think Audi make their own windscreens?
I've had three replaced on my A4 and 2 on the A3, never had any problems. I think it's more to do with the fitting than the glass.

I was told by an audi technician that the windscreen that was on my car ( not from Audi) had the wrong curve on the glass which left a gap from where water leaked in

That's just the wrong screen badly fitted, nothing to do with the brand of glass.

Probably, audi just look for excuses, I didn't mind - as my car went back 3 times for the same thing I had a years free warranty off them worth £850ish so HAPPY DAYS.
