The flexi pipe in front of the cat has rusted so apparently I need an entire cat. I thoght this was **** design when I had the exact same on my jag. Anyone had this got a cheap(er) solution?

Assuming you have an A3 1.6 fsi your flexi should be on the front pipe, if this is the case we replace them on a regular basis.

I recently had a blowing exahust so took it to a garage near work and when they got it up on ramps, they advised me that I had a bit hole in one of the flexi's. They also told me that they are part of the cat and will need new cat with flexi's at a cost of over £400!!

Got recommended a proper exhaust place where they specialise in custom exhausts/cats etc. They said they could replace both flexi's without a whole new cat no problem. Dropped it off the next day in the morning, picked it up late afternoon and it was sorted. And at more than half the price of the other garage.
