Where can you get that ?

I love Chianti and Pinot Grigio but Vino Tonite sounds a very cheeky little number !

No it can't !

VCDS cannot read the 'coded' bit in the car immobiliser that was coded in Germany.

You need a specialist bit of kit as well to read that information before the transponder chip will work.

Sorry mate !

just brought this key 8p0 837 220 d
am i better trying to code the remote in first make sure it will work on my a3 then swop the chip after?

ALso how easy is it to swop the blades over.....what to i need to do that ?????????

Oh dear:( hope i dont damage the transponder..........thats the scary bit !
NEVER DONE THE TRANSPONDER SWOP !

Damn ! that transponder well glued in ! i may melt the plastic around it with a soldering iron....cant see any other way...unless any of you guys got any thoughts?
come on NHN........u done a few aint ya ?:eyebrows:

Use a very sharp modelling knife with the thinnest blade possible (not a stanley knife ! ) and carefully score the plastic down each side of the transponder. Keep doing this until you have broken the glue away.

Personally I wouldn't recommend heating with a soldering iron !!

Post 18, read the whole thread mate :p

you can sinter powdered metal onto the key, thus creating a new blank key ready to cut.

When blades cost next to nothing & a key can be cut also for next to nothing, I see no point in doing that at all.

2 and 1/2 hours later............and ive managed to pull out the chip:thumbsup: next.....where does the chip go in the new key? and has it got be next to the blade and how can i change the blade via the small pin ?

Have you taken the new key apart yet ? If you have then you will see under the pcb ( which you have to remove, again carefully by cutting one of the plastic melted tabs off), that there is a slot next to the blade that the chip sits in.

You will also see that you do not have to remove the pin to change the blade, just remove the whole thing from the old key and locate, together with the spring and locking mechanism into the new key.

Thanks mike.........just waiting for the new key....fingers crossed should arrive tomorrow,i just wanted to know before hand so i know what ive got coming, will my chip fit in the new key....are they the same size? got try get the key sitting right first so it sits snug when folded and spring out when released ,thought id ask about the blade as wasnt sure if they all the same length/fitting etc.
But befor every thing il be coding the remote in....just to be sure it works......should i glue the chip in the new key ?

Glue it in & all of these type keys have the same blade in, the prefacelift blades were not the same size & in default state cant be fitted, but with a dremel you can cut it down & thinner to fit in no worries, as I have on several keys & grind a small groove in where the pin sits.

You can ever so minimally bend the blade so it fits snuggly inside flush, not to much or it'll snap.

ok...........ive coded the remote BUT ! ................the new style key is a bit shorter with a different shape at the very top.....ive taken the pins out of both keys and taken the blades off, also ive noticed the chrome bit that holds the key in is a bit wider on the newer key aswell......have i got to get a new key ?

No, you just need to read the thread as I already advised the old key blade wont fit the new key unless you dremel it down to fit, you dont swap the key holder as such just the blade or get a new blade cut.

ok,nhn....the keys have a groove running straight across have i got to remake a groove aswel? I take it youve done this before? just got find something that will open the 2 tiny screws at the back of the key, done the bigger one them other 2 are tiny..........!!!!!!!!!!!

Without meaning to be rude, READ THE THREAD PROPERLY, what you're asking has already been advised!!!!

ok.......all done well.....almost,wheres the best place to get a key from and is it true that they need be laser cut or something or can i get it done from any key place.....prices ????

:happy:got the blade £12 all done now a big thanks to everyone for their advice !:yahoo:

Interesting thread and what prompted me to join the forum. I've been looking for another key. One of mine has been through the washing mchine. Although it still works it will kill a battery in 48 hours. Now I know how to take it apart I guess it's worth giving it a scrub with some cleaning fluid.

I've been phoning around for someone who could do a job. One guy quoted me "£190 + vat and we will probably have to take your clocks out of the car". Surely the dealer won't charge much more than that.

what year car you got andy ? you can do the same as i did or get a new transponder and i think a freind of mine may be able to retreive the skc code and code the key for around 80 quid, or better still do what i did.....what u got to lose ?

It's a 57 plate. The guy I was talking to said I am right on the boundary of when Audi suddenly made life a lot more difficult for key cloners. My key is the same as the one you have bought.

I can open the car and drive the car OK as long as I put a fresh battery in so it's OK as a spare. At the moment I keep a new battery in it but i've wrapped the battery in cling film to stop it discharging.

I noticed there are plenty of new key fobs on ebay at the moment for £45. I think I'll dismantle it and give it a good blast with switch cleaner. I need to find my tiny torx screw drivers first though.

Andy

ok ANDYMGC YOU HAVE PM.........let me know when you get it.

I did this mod by cutting my transponder out of my old key and then putting it into a new key which I then used VAG-COM to program the central locking too. Took me about 10 minutes and has worked for the past 6 months. Have a look at my build thread if you want more info.
