So it's one step forward and then two back with this car. I have just put some focal component speaker in the front of the a3. I used the original speaker wire and cut it in half, the wire from the hu now runs to the input on the crossover, the other half runs to the woofer. I then used my own speaker wire for the tweeter. But I now get a whine when the engine is running I didn't get this with the original speakers? Any ideas guys?

Dunno mate, usually whining comes from the passenger seat, when the Mrs is sat in it :)

Hahaha yeah she was in the back so it doesnt make sense :D I know you get it from the rear speakers when you fit an aftermarket Hu but I have sorted that by rewiring it, but now it comes from the front

Right I sorted it just incase anyone else has this problem. It worked out to be that the crossover for the speakers was to close to the chassis on the car and picking up an electro magnetic field off it.
