    Hi guys.
I read this forum for months now. Trying to sell my silly mondeo to get B5.
Problem is that I do about 30k miles a year so it has to be diesel.

I have found nice 99 2.5tdi quattro with 80k miles on clock.
Dark blue with white/cream leather interior and manual gearbox.
I have read about a lot of problems with injection pump which might be expensive to fix. I had that problem with 1.8tddi focus and it did hurt my pocket pretty badly. And it is cheap to fix ford...

    So my question is.
Should I take a risk and go with 2.5 or would be better to find nice 1.9tdi 115bhp? There is one or two with full audi service history on autotrader, but with mileage around 120k miles.

Another thing. At what mileage these cars need new cambelt and clutch?
If I change clutch, do I need to get dmf as well?

everything is more expensive to fix on the 2.5, used parts are rare, around town there not very economical and they are the most expensive to buy apart from s/rs4 models
they are a nice motorway cruiser though but id buy a 1.9

had mine 4 years and its had glow plugs, starter motor, fuel pump rebuild, breather replacement, maf, turbo cleaned two auxillary belts and tensioner
when i went to audi for the tensioner they supplied a 1.9 one by mistake at £30 when i took it back to get the right parts it cost over £100

    Thanks
Will stick with 1.9 in that case.

The figures i hear quoted for the 2.5TDI are similar to what our 1.8T returns. (33-35mpg)

Ok ours is a FWD, but i dont think the 2.5 makes sense on economy grounds. I'd be looking at either a 1.8T or if you want lots of fuel economy a 1.9TDi is the one to go for, but its probably going to be a bit slow.

economy is much better at motorway speeds with 6th gear to help, but around town its no better than my 1.8t
never driven a 1.9tdi but heard lots of storys of people swapping to a 1.8t and thinking the turbos broke so id imagine the 1.9 feels quicker than it is

    I'd leave the 2,5TDI alone - even with 6th, it's a thirsty beast.
Heart-stopping bills when the injector pump breaks too.

For your estimated annual mileage, I'd go with a 1,9TDI 110/115. The rare 115 is also 6-speed, so that'll aid fuel motorway fuel economy.
