basically i put the clutch down to change gear and it went straight to the floor and stayed there, i pulled over and had a look, it won't disengage the clutch at all so its un drivable :-(
looking underneath the car there is a big puddle of fluid under the engine near the front of the gear box
just about to go out and get it up on ramps, anyone any ideas what this would be?

    cheers

slave cylinder sounds like it's gone. Probably seized as the pressure plate should push the slave cylinder back so engaging the clutch. If it seized then it'll piss fluid out and possibly lock the clutch in .

Or... The puddle is a coincidence and you've snapped the clutch pedal. This is what happened to me and is not an uncommon failure.

Not at all saying the first post is wrong. Just adding an additional explanation :)

ok so i had a look and it appears it was a wee hose that popped off, it connects into the bleed nipple part and its number 23A in the pic below

i put it back on and bled the clutch and it seemed fine, went for a drive round the block and it got 3/4 of the way round before it popped again, there are a couple more pics of the actual hose below

    why would this keep popping?
would it be caused by the slave cylinder?
also where is the slave cylinder?? hehe :banghead:

    cheers

I had the same problem and it turned out it was the Master Cylinder, the slave cylinder is located on the top of the transmission casing!

but does the face that the clutch working fine for 3/4 of the way round the block not mean that the master and slave cylinders are fine and its more likely to be the connection from the hose to the bleed nipple thats nackered hense why it keeps splitting there?

like a pressure thing you mean?

-the cylinders have functionality but the seal on the T-piece has worn out?

Have you looked into the cost of the part, Ali...?

yeah, I've not looked into part prices yet but it looks like the slave cylinder is actually in the gear box and the AMK S3's. so if it is the slave cylinder it will be a gear box off jobby and then might aswell replace the clutch, flywheel and master cylinder at the same time as the slave cylinder :-(

not sure whether to attempt it myself or take it to Audi to get it done

cheers, ill call Autohaus next week and see what they say (im away in london till wednesday) in the meantime ive ordered the breather assembly with the bleed nipple (part 23A in the image above)

i would be replacing it anyway when doing the job so figured i might as well try that first to see if the hard plastic has degraded and split slightly. fingers crossed its just that.

Just going back to your original post, if you can't disengage the clutch then you slave cylinder is knackered and stuck open. The force of the pressure plate pushes the slave cylinder and fluid back. it is in the gearbox also so gearbox off to replace, worth changing the clutch as you say at the same time.

ok, so I've had a look and i took off the old bleed breather assembly and the spring clip on the side the popped off was deformed.

the left hand side goes into the bell housing and the right hand side had the metal hose going into it which is what popped out.

I replaced the breather assembly above, re filled and bled the system and went round the block a few times then for a longer drive and it seems fine.
Fingers crossed and touch everything wooden that's what it was and I don't need todo the entire clutch
