Just curious as to what the various engine types can do. Mine is an indicated 150 at 6300RPM.

Both actually, I wasn't very clear. What it has on the clock and what you've had, I'm interested to see the difference in gear ratio's mainly as my car seems to be geared fairly highly.

The most I've had from my 2.8 Quattro (Tiptronic) is 137 mph, but that was in fourth, not fifth. Fifth is massively over geared, something like 33 mph per 1000rpm, and the car is designed to reach its maximum in 4th. I got up to just under 130 mph in fifth (not even 4000rpm) & it started to falter, so I dropped it into 4th, and it began to accelerate again. I'd got as far as 137 mph (just over 5200rpm) when I ran out of empty road & had to slow down, but there was definitely more to come if the space had been there. All of these speeds were indicated, of course, and I haven't tested the speedo for accuracy.

If you think your boost is falling off after 5200rpms (it may be actual hp), then you probably have a faulty coolant sensor.

This was a little known flaw that was discovered last year by a few guys in Pennsylvania. A new unit was released after some quiet discussions with Audi.

The older version thinks the engine is hot and sends the false info to the ecu. The ecu backs off the timing at higher revs and hp falls accordingly. The new unit works perfectly. It's a five minute do-it-yourself swap and costs very little out of pocket, too.

What RPM were you pulling at 158 mate? I was pretty much flat out at 150 (6300).

    What is the 'CC'?

Will try and find my logging data for the runs, but I was pretty much flat out and could of eeked a couple more km/h over another 2 mile stretch /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

    CC = Climate control

The scariest part of doing a constant 150+ mph was the rate at which the fuel gauge was moving /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh_roll.gif

    All my cars, indicated:

    A3 1.6 - 130

    A3 2.0TDI - 135

    A4 1.8T - 140

All had more to go, but never had the chance to try them out fully, yet.

Having only recently aquired my A4 1.8T Sport, i wasn't sure what to expect, been driving an Audi 80TDi for last 5 years. I took it out for a run straight from the garage I purchased it from.
I got a superb 135mph and there was still more there. I was well chuffed. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/groovy.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/groovy.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/groovy.gif

Trust me the you'll see the fuel gauge shift if you remain between 120 and 150 mph for 30 km stretches, it was just a couple of days of ripping up German roads!

    [/ QUOTE ]

30km lol that explains it. If only we had roads like that here!
