Only had it a few days, and just taking a closer examination under the bonnet. The previous owner has taped up something on the corner of the airbox - any idea what it is and why he might have done it please?

Ok thanks. Could explain why it failed on emissions on its last MOT before passing?

I doubt it, SAI is used for emissions on coldstart really...

MOT tests are done on warm engines... if the cats weren't up to temp then it would most likely fail initially...

I have a Neuspeed induction kit (pictured) and you can see a smaller filter to the bottom left is that for the SAI?
It's currently disconnected, should it be connected?

The SAI draws filtered air from the airbox... the neuspeed heat shield has a place to connect SAI when you replace the std air box and supplies a filter (the little one) to retain functionality... if you have still got SAI then it should be connected...

By the way what is the advantage of removing it?
