HI Guys

I just recently got my A6 Allroad 218PS 3.TDi. I was wondering if anyone knows what the physical difference is between the 218 and the 272PS engine variants?

Regards

Not sure on those particular engines, but before you get too tempted by a crazy remap: in past generations, Audi have spec'd the clutch + intercoolers a lot lower on the lower BHP models to stop people just remapping them (for anything other than a very short term gain).... given that nobody was offering to remap the old 206PS 3.0TDI by too much, I'm guessing that one had lower spec injectors too, so the 218PS is likely to be similar.

You can work it out for yourself on the main components using the parts listing if you know the various engine codes.

There are some differences in the exhaust, probably minimal.

Too me the 218ps looks like a detuned 272bhp engine .It certainly has all the same hardware so no reason why it shouldn't make the same as a 272bhp engine . You would just need to compare the gearbox codes and see if there is a different gearbox specified on the 218 compared to the 272bhp .

The pre face-lift mid spec TDI (254ps) had the ZF box... I know later models adopted the DSG, as has the economy tune of the TDI... But just bear in mind those boxes are sensitive to torque and the TDI remaps just shift the torque curve up.

I'm (clearly) in favour of remaps, but I've also seen a lot of clutches burnt out and auto gear boxes fried where the engine has been remapped unsympatheticly.

Guys

Thank you very much for all the in, as always I can rely on detailed and educated responces!
As the car is still under warranty i wont be doing anything in the short, and compared to my old 170PS A4 this 218PS Allroad has enough grunt to keep me honest... for now
