Do a search for the Pipercross Venom on here. Quite a new kit, but keenly priced.

I've been thinking the same thing recently. I really like the look of the Carbonio kit from Awesome. There's a couple of videos of it on youtube if you search. I also think they've done a "stage 2" version of it now, as I came across something on the internet comparing the older and newer versions. Seems to do the job well and keeps the engine bay looking tidy!

This is gona be a good thread!! some people will say aw this is the best!! if they are runnin it!! and people will try to sell u junk, i would go for one that fits like OEM, people will say aw ITG is the best bec its just new, i dont think it looks that good, two of my m8,s ran the Carbonio intake and have now sold them waste of £200, i run the vf one bec it cost me £250 to make and fits like OEM and have had no problems, The evoms and ITG both cost well over £300, BSH looks (i think as if it was made up in somebodys shed:puke:) forge one sits far to close to the ground, as i work for ford as a tech i see many moded cars goin through the workshop, one can remember was a fiesta st that was runnin a k&n typhoon intake kit that sat like the forge, took in water and put a conrod through the block, The only way u will know which intake is the best is to get a car put it on the rollers with the same temp, run each intake and then u will know which is the one to buy!! if i was u i would look for one that fits like OEM and i would defo stay back from ones that sit too low to the road:yes: if i was to do it again i would go the same route i went or if off the shelf i would go for evoms from regal, hope this helps u make ur mind up sir

Agree with the above i have heard the carbonio ones are a waste of time, and also agree with people always say there's are the best, not seen a lot of reviews or figures on pipercross but its supposed to be ok,but at min the VF,Evoms & ITG are the ones getting the good hype

I bet if you swapped your intake with an EVOMS, VF, PIPERCROSS, FORGE etc the figures would be very similar. I went for the EVOMS Stage 2 the stage 2 kit replaces the standard oiled cone for a dry version and an additional fine mesh "sock". Im pretty sure most filters for the S3 run oiled filters which in time will eventually knacker the maf sensor as it becomes covered in oil, this has happened to a few people im sure. Pick a CAI which you like whether it be for how it looks, the price, or beause everyone says its the best you really cant go wrong unless you buy a carbonio as they are pants IMO

I'm not convinced of the oiled filter/MAF issue, the story has been hanging around for years from the 1.8T days and I've yet to see proof. If it was true the inside of the intake/filter would be coated in oil surely yets its dry as a bone. I had a good chat with Andy the tech guy at ITG about it and he explained that its not an issue, they have tried dry and oiled filters and the oiled filters out perform them in filtration/flow overall thats why they use them. He did explain that with a dry filter the filtration isn't as good and the tiny particles that can get through are just as likely to damage the MAF.
I've used oiled filters in my last 5 cars, 2 1.8T's and 3 TFSi's and never had an issue, just my opinion and experience of course:rolleyes:

The ITG filter he sells is oiled, he is not going to tell you an oiled filter isnt as good, he is obviously going to tell you its not an issue

The particules must be invisible to the human eye as the mesh cover is so fine i cant imagine anything gettin through it, and the filter unit is very well contructed also.

Why would regal charge an extra £30 if it wasnt worthwhile?

I bought mine from a user on here that was selling his S3 and had taken all his mods off. You can buy the stage 2 Evoms from regal, i do not know if they sell the dry filter and sock seperately tho. Link below:

    I just bought the K&N 57S-9500 for my audi a3 2010 1.4 TFSI.

It looks great and it sound even better. It replaces the original filterbox and uses every original screws and pipes.

Im not sure if this is an oiled filter since it didn't come with any extra oil.........

I understand what your saying, but what I'm saying is they have tried BOTH, with/without the oil. Without the oil to get the same filtration the filter material needs to be more dense/finer to catch really fine particles which obviuosly affects flow. I'm not saying 1 is better than the other just pointing out the reasons I've been told they use it. from my own experience of my last 5 modded cars using oiled type filters with no MAF issues and the vast experience of the tech guy at ITG who have been making filters for years I don't see it as an issue and it probably came from some propaganda from a company which manufactures unoiled filters.

Anyway this debate has been knocked about numerous times and I'm not sure I can be @rsed going through it all again:crying:

I'm glad this thread came up, as i was seriously tempted by the Carbonio ... given the comments above, I'm now not so sure!

What are the issues with the Carbonio?

[Edit:] Having now searched old posts about the Carbonio and Carbon Speed intakes, it seems the general is that these are a fair bit more restrictive than a cone-type filter. Although, others do seem to think they are better than standard. I still prefer the more OEM look of the carbon intakes, as opposed to a cone, and am still tempted.

Because Regal would charge you £30 for a stamp mate - always well overpriced.

Me neither - they all have pros and cons but all give similar gains. Nuff said. If you do a search for any of the major intake brands mentioned in this thread you'll find enough write-ups to keep you reading for days.

I'd say the ITG is still the best.

The fit and finish are fine and the flow is good for 500-600bhp.

I understand!.....in that case the Evoms plus cover may fit the bill nicely.
I'm far enough past the kids stage to be in the stage where I can make the car faster and tell porkies about the cost....

i tried that but she just seems to know when the car feels different!! its my fault for involving her with the first project.. and she was really interested so knows when something has been tweeked... like after the remap... i didnt give it the boot when i was with her but she borrowed it and gave it the boot herself and instantly knew... but ive stopped letting her drive it because now she just feels scared that its too fast hahaha... otherwise she can read me like a book even when i lie... "you looked to the left"!!... yeh may be im a **** liar these days.. yeh i reckon i can sneak the evoms in though without her noticing that one... wouldnt know of the best place to buy would you? cheers

Do you get much heat soak with an open cone filter in this engine?
