An impending arrival, sadly not of the coupe/s variety, but equally as exciting, means I will be looking to part company with my beloved A3. I was wondering if you, my fellow forumers could give me a price to aim for....spec as follows

    A3 2.0 TDi 170 S-Line.
    Lava Grey
    S-Tronic
    Front Centre Armrest
Ipod connector (will throw in ipod too)
    Auto folding mirrors
    Boot liner

'56 (Sept 2006) Approx 11k miles. Condition is very good. A couple of v. minor scuff and 2 of the wheels could probably do with a refurb.

    I paid just under £25k.

    What do you reckon?

Also, apart from Autotrader, where would you guys advertise?

    Thanks

I really like Autotrader, it's always done me proud.
You're evidently handy with a camera, so take a good photo with a nice background (not a driveway, everyone else does that)
I always use a local elevated car park with a golf course in the background, and I never take side-on shots either.
Sort of 3/4 shots, like a less extreme version of your middle one, with the wheels turned to show them off.
Some people swear by ebay these days, but it's not an option I'd ever investigate.
My view may be out of date, but I still look on ebay as the last resort of the desperate.

Thanks Bowfer. I, like you, am going down the BMW route for my next car. Am looking at both 330 and 335 tourings. Unless of course there is a D3 touring........

You do get D3 tourings (sorry if you already knew that)
They're even more rare than the saloon though.
Try www.sytner.co.uk, they're regarded as the best D3 source around.
They certainly have a used one, with only 10k on the clock.
    Nice colour too.

looks lovely. how is the ride? harder than the m-sport? if so, I may steer clear as the s-line ride is about my limit!!

No, the Alpina doesn't use the run flat tyres that the M-sports use.
The suspension has been retuned too.
So they have a more compliant ride, and better handling!
Not sure how an Alpina D3 engine would compare with a 330 though.
It is only a 2-litre, after all!

true. the 330 would be nice, but the D3 looks amazing. seems quite steep at nearly 30k with 10k miles. What do you think?

    Hen's teeth.
    Supply and demand.
Exclusivity (no sign of an '08 model D3)
    Resale value.

All these come into play, then you decide!
You never know, they might offer you a decent trade-in on the A3.

(go on....get it...you know you won't regret it..)

just spoke to Sytner Leicester. Not the sharpest tools in the shed!! very, very frustrating to deal with. Guy was a complete knob. He kept asking what I wanted for mine, when clearly it is about the cost of change.....

Have asked another Sytner dealer to try and do a deal on it for me. Will keep you posted.

Do a search on the Audi website for used ones of similar spec, age and mileage. This will give you an idea of what they would be asking for it on the forecourt and work from this.

Valued your car through December's trade-only CAP database and these are the prices:

    AUDI A3 DIESEL HATCHBACK 2.0 TDi 170 S Line 3dr S Tronic (2006-)
    10k miles, £22500 retail / £20050 trade-in
    20k miles, £21500 retail / £19050 trade-in

Generally speaking, CAP prices are quite optimistic but you should be able to reach the trade-in price in a private sale as a minimum. I would suggest pricing half-way between both values, so something like £20,495 would be about right.

Haven't sold anything through Autotrader for ages, but contrary to opinion here eBay works well, mainly because you can market the car much better. Go to town on the listing (lots of text and pictures) and make it clear how you are going to deal with the sale. Start bidding at the absolute minimum you are willing to accept for the car and don't put a reserve on.

    Damn, that's a pain.
Is that where the car is?
As you say, another Sytner dealer should be able to get a deal sorted.
That D3 tourer has the 'classic' alloys (PIC 1 BELOW), which is my preferred option.
Many tourers come with the 'dynamic' alloys (PIC 2 BELOW)
I prefer the classics myself, as per the saloon.
Don't worry about the side stickers on the photos below.
They're an option on UK models.
God knows why anyone would want them!
