Hillman hunter gls 1800cc I think, with a holbay engine twin webber carbs went like the clappers at the time but was a rust bucket I remember after passing my test at 17 going up Lake Ullswater on a wet night with my mates there was at least 2 inches of water in the footwells.It was a **** starter as well, I used to bump start it most cold mornings to get to work luckily I lived on a hill. Basically it was a pile of **** but enjoyable.
1972 (K Reg) Triumph 1500 Front Wheel Drive (Dolomite shape)....very comfy, but without doubt the rustiest, most unreliable car ever (syncromesh packed up twice on 2nd gear).....knew I should of got a Ford Escort Mk1 ...hindsight eh !
70s T Reg Mini 850, with offcuts of carpet from my mum and dad's bedroom and an interior ripped out of a 25th aniversary mini. I loved that car, until a friend took it on a BMX track and snapped it in two

J reg Ford Orion 1.4 CVH Quartz - Special Edition! It was a death trap, only had it a couple of months.
Passed my test in 1985. Then drove a 1971 Rover 2000, my dads old car. Davos white with red leather, magnificent! Eventually bought my own, a 1973 Cortina 1.6L, not so magnificent, but rebuilt the engine on a Sunday afternoon. Ahhh, happy days...........

My first car was an Austin A35 countryman which I got for swapping my push bike!!. I never actually drove it on the road as it was a shed and also I hadn't passed my test!. After that a Vauxhall Viva, which I bought to learn to drive in, then wrote it off before I passed my test.
So my first proper car was a 1973 Mk1 escort 1100, which I put a 1600 ohv Mk2 Cortina 1600E engine in.
Started off on drum brakes all round and no brake servo, that was fun to drive !!!
mine was a f reg vauxhall astra which i fitted a 1.6 8v engine with a twin choke weber carb was well cool lol, its in the scrap yard now

My first car was a 1961 Mercury Comet. It had a 170 c.i. six cylinder engine and a two speed slushbox automatic. No power brakes, no power steering, no power engine. The engine burnt so much oil, the rings were shot, that my dad and I ran a radiator hose from the oil filler neck to the air filter intake horn. The smoking from under the hood was so bad that with out this custom air inlet system, people thought the engne was on fire. I think it was painted a sort of cream color, but it was so rusted out that you couldn't be sure. The seats were upholstered with that 1960's vinyl that was either whole or shredded -- nothing in between. The front seats were shredded. The back seats, as the guy who sold it to my dad put it "had never been sat in.'' It was a rolling wreck, but it started every day and got me wherever I wanted to go at a sedate pace (I just didn't go too very far away). This was in Detroit, Michigan, 1967.
In April 1979 just before passing my test, I bought myself (with mum's financial help) a Mitsubishi 1.6 Celeste.
I must have washed it about 20 times before I passed my test in May.
And it never came out if the garage during that time.
I sat in it for hours dreaming away, waiting for my test date to arrive.

A pea green mk2 Vauxhall Cavalier 1.6GL It had matching green velour seats to top off its radiant beauty. I loved it as it had a rev counter!! Must say it was quite a comfortable car and pretty nippy for an 18year old.
It hit the 100k mark after about a year of my owning it, at which point the head gasket failed and the rattling cam got much worse. I px'd it for another classic ..... an MG Metro Turbo and the Cavalier reportedly blew up 7 miles later.
My first car was a 3 door X reg (as in 1981/82 X) Austin Metro L! (996cc....oooh the power!!)
Need to have a hunt to see if I have any pics...it was class - My Gran bought it for me for £200 quid on my 16th birthday and me and my Dad spent the next year doing it up and restoring it with a view to me passing my test the following year (which I did....1993 what a year!).
We did a really good job on it - looked showroom at the time - I even got a few comments from folk at the local Rover garage (where my dad worked in the Unipart section - which proved VERY handy )
The car was Biege with ...wait for it...Paprika vinyl interior.
The laugh is....I sold it after a couple of years for £400 - think it only had 60k on it as well.

First car at 17 was a 1975 dark metallic blue Lancia Beta 1800 ES.
spec:110bhp. 1800cc twin overhead cams, Dual choke carb, discs brakes all round and independent suspension front and rear. Alloy wheels, tinted electric windows.
Had it for three years and did 45,000 miles
1983 Y MG Metro 1300. Bought in 1990 sold 15 months later when I discovered the floor was rotting. Great wee car and even replaced it with a 1988 one which wasn't so much fun.

Bought in 1992, my first car was a 1984 Mini Mayfair, everyone (of a certain ageshould have a mini in there car history), my raises a few eyebrows as I'm 6ft 8ins tall........... let the high-tower 'take the front seats out and sit in the back' jokes commence

Anyway, my brother was about to drive it home from the garage with me (because I didn't want to) but the stupid garage people left it in reverse! and he nearly reversed into the wall! luckily he didn't.
