im thinking of selling my S3 even tho ive only had it few months! car is a beast. around 280bhp! new turbo and an agressive remap but im bored of it. any idea what i can get nxt???

Ive got a corsa 1.0 12v, no power, poor condition, several careless lady owners, no history, drives like a POS, if your bored of your s3 it would certainly be a contrast, lets swap.

Big turbo also gets my vote.
People have asked me and I have considered myself why I dont just get a B5 RS4 or something thats already quick.
The thing is I can't honestly think of anything within budget, £12k, that could what I want a car to do better than spending £5k on a big turbo setup.
You know your s3, what you've replaced/upgraded, what's likely to go wrong and the best part is when stuff goes wrong it's not that expensive to fix.
I.e. there are C5 rs6's around for £13k, if the gearbox blows it's a £5K job on the s3 it's between £500-£1K.
Any serious work on a B5 RS4 is an engine out job. $$$$$$$
Evo's loud and noisy all the time, but big bang for buck.
My s3 is quiet on a motorway journey or when pootling around town but sounds awesome when giving it the beans, Its comfortable, you can use it all year round, there's loads of specialists around to do any work for a good price (although theres only one that counts), It's not massive so it still handles well, anything that goes wrong is bound to be used on at least 2 other cars that VAG make so parts are easy and usually fairly cheap.

E46 M3 would be a worthy upgrade, but again, not particulalry cheap to run and insure, but far more of drivers car than an S3. Not easy to make it go faster though if you really have to mod your cars, but it's dam good car already so modding isn't really required (IMO).
And what is it about the S3 that bores you? It would help with suggestions, i.e. is it the lack of power, is it the lack of feel in the steering, too heavy, AWD is boring, not big enough, too big, too old....?

You've got to ask yourself how much can you afford, the above will all be fun and not slow as there NA V8's and rwd, but my god they'll drink fuel and if something goes wrong it wont be cheap to fix

ive done this the opposite way, ive had a MK1 focus RS and is a fun car, ive also had a fast evo 8 which is amazing but as Dane said, loud and uncomfortable and always worried about where i parked it..... had a B5 RS4 great car will have another one but you need a 'fund' for when they go wrong, even small things cost a lot!! looked at a C5 RS6 but a mate had one and the gearbox and DRC scare most people off, not to mention the amount of petrol it drinks!!!
I also had a x5 4.8 360bhp, sounded great went well but couldnt turn a corner for love nor money and always went wrong!!!
thus i ended up with a run-around s3, ok so its tuned but it holds its own to all of my previous cars and cheap to run and fix!
I have a B7 RS4 which is a great second car but its Daytona grey so its a sleeper too, however my experience with all the cars is if you have 12k to buy a car dont spend all of that on a car, keep some back for a fund, as things always come up and cost money, and usually alot.

OP needs to give us more info about what he wants. Newer car? Faster car? Better handling car? What's the budget?

Not for 12k, thats real bottom of the barrel money for an 8P, and I mean literally the cheapest, it'll be galactic miles, poor spec, written off...some or possibly all of those!

all my cars ive had have been jap imports ive had 7 of them (im only 24) lol i think its just cuse im so used to them. power on my s3 is amazing but my god the boot is **** lol

Don't you have your own view of what you want? Seems a bit weird to me putting a "what shall I get?" post on a forum. Sorry but I'm with superkarl on this one. I could understand asking for forum members' experiences of a specific car, but just saying "what shall I get?" is nonsense to me. My next motor will defo be a B5 RS4, so much so that i have even got the savings started and a timeline in place (sad i know)

Wow what a choice:- Mk1 Focus RS, Focus ST, Mitsu Evo, M3, M5, Jag XKR, Jag XJR, Jag Stype R, Mazda RX8, or if you really want to scare yourself, how about a big power rear drive Cossie (500 + BHP). But personally I am with Clarkson when it comes to 911's, just an over price beetle that hasn't really changed in the last thirty years.
