    98' A4.

My Cd player Freezes so i assume it's half knackered but i also suffer the rear speakers dropping out and the fronts loose the base or for some reason just sound "tinny" Also when you turn off Concern (non Bose) head unit when this happens and back on all is fine for 5 seconds before the rears cut out again. you have to turn the engine off before it works fine again. This has happened to me 3 times in the last 2 days. sooooo

Currently i'm booked into a Audi centre on Friday so they can have a look.

DO i put up with the CD changer errors and hope they fix the sound issues.

    Or

Do i change the head unit for something that accepts MP3 cd's and get the garage to check the wiring and rear amps over for problems?

I doubt very much that Audi will even know where to start. At best they'll replace everything and charge you a fortune, (unless you still have warranty).
I would spend the money a bit more wisely on a decent HU. This will drive both the fronts and the rears so you can bypass the pathetic excuse for an amp that Audi bolt to the nearside rear speaker and drive them off the HU.

It's not an Audi dealer it's booked in at. As odd as it sounds i think the setup as it is gives a great sound, I'm worried by driving the rear speakers off a new Head unit i won't get the same quality sound. I know it replacing the HU will probably see to all the problems that i've been having with it, and not using the CD player or rear amp, but i really do want that sound. So...who's changed their head unit and has found it's better/worse/same ???

The Audi setup is probably the worst sounding stock system fitted to a decent brand of car, and when you start to take it a part you can only wonder at the shoddy wiring and cheap and nasty products they seem to think are worthy of a £20k+ vehicle.
Believe me, any aftermarket HU will sound far better.
