The stuff around the ring where you pour in the engine oil which i can only describe as rat droppings?? WTF!

I noticed this about a couple of months back so cleaned it all up but noticed it again this week, what is it? Any ideas guys?

Someone told me if you get them to spray WD40 round the engine bay they don't like that & bugger off,
They can cause so much damage by eating your wiring etc...

Do you live in a field or sumet? Never known rats to nest etc in cars, especially cars used on a regular bases.

This can happen m8 my dad had a rats nest living in the engine bay of his jag and they ate through part of the wiring loom, f**king nightmare cost a fortune to repair. Give the engine a steam clean

Hopefully the poison and WD40 will sort it. If not where would you recommend i get a steam clean? Also i heard steam cleaning is bad for the engine, is that true?

Problem with the poison is that if they do die somewhere you can't see them you'll have a right mission trying to find the dead rat when the smell comes through the AC!

Might seem a silly question but have you actually had all the plastic engine covers off and had a search around for your furry friend?

I see your point. I've taken the poison out now :) I can just see this being a mission. I think jacks suggestion of a steam clean seems to be the best way to go about it..

A mate recently had furry invaders in her T- sport. The little buggers did quite a number on some wiring. they even ate through her rear seatbelts!! Turned out they nesting in the box iron of the chassis. Cant remember how she ousted them, ill ask tomorrow if you like?

Right, she said she set traps in the boot and blocked up the access holes but she thinks it just left on its own accord. Although the suggestion of using a jack russel dog or similar to hunt it out can work, apparently they go mental for them!! Sorry couldnt be more helpful

This problem of rodent damage under engine bays is much more common than you would think, I've seen it loads of times, little bastards chew away at all sorts of bits but they seem to like wiring looms the most. In central euorpe Audi will fit a bit of kit that will electricute (sp) the little bugers on entry to the vehicle, I don't know much about the system apart from it was never an option in this country.

Thanks. I think the WD40 may have done the trick. It may be that a mouse/rat has come across the few drops of engine oil from a little over spill on the drive way and has led it up the engine to the oil cap. I've heard they do get attracted to oil too.

I hope this is the case and that its not nesting in there somewhere. :(
