What have you done today?

Had a quick play with my wi-fi Vgate ODBII. Bought from amazon out of curiosity, and it seems to work really well.

Not really a serious option, but seems to do lots of stuff, and can clear codes as well.

So, having done a 0-60 on a damp farm track (private land), 7.5 seconds, max boost 19psi, calculated engine power 244hp.

Think the power may be optimistic, though it did feel quick. That wasn't a dumped clutch, but fed in and then full power.

Fun little thing for £25 :)

Can also compare against our cooper s, which felt quick before the S3 arrived....not so sure now.

How did you get your obd cable to work iv got one that I use on all the cars in the family but I am the only one with a Audi and surprise surprise computer says no lol got all the port settings correct computer connects to cable but when it comes to the car it says ecu not responding. Stumped me I did what to just check to see if any codes were there as when I brought the car a few months ago there was a huge list of problems with it that have now been sorted but I do need to reset for throttle body as iv had it out and gave it a good service.

@jaykay8L how does it compare to your s3 my girlfriend has a turbo one and it's rather fast my a3 Agu couldnt keep up not raced since I fitted my k03s 12 psi actuator and other stuff so we shall see think hers is 187-89 bhp standard and similar torque surprised me for a 1.6 turbo

Hi, the one i've bought is a wi-fi connection (gets its power from the port). It creates a wi-fi signal that you pair your phone to, and then use the app "Torque" for android, or "Dash Command" for iOS.

My pal has VCDS, and his cable can play up a bit sometimes. Its the "wi-fi VGate ODB2" that I have, sold via amazon. Works well, does some logging, as well as 0-60 and 1/4 mile. Get one on your Christmas list :)

Yeah, the Cooper S are fairly quick. Ours is an '09 with the 1.6 turbo. It is a PSA group engine, and appears in Citroen DS3 and Pug 208 Gti amongst others. It is electronically limited in first and second, but you get the lot with a bit of over-boost in third which pulls really well.

Currently, my S3 would now comfortably pull away from it in gear, and would murder it from a standing start, especially if it was wet.

When I got the S3 it felt a bit heavy and slow in comparison but having had a major service, cam belt and Badger 5 v3 tip, different car and now very swift :)

That said, the Cooper S is light and probably handles better than the S3 at 96k on original suspension. Would be close on the twisties :w00t:

Front subframe needs to be dropped, how hard is it I can't answer, as I got a mate to do a complete front subframe swop all fully powder coated and poly bushed up in one go!

Not today, but last week I had 2 niggling rust bubbles on the leading edge of my rear wheel arches removed, treated and re-sprayed. Awesome job, excellent paint match and a very relieved OCD owner.

1st touch to the original paintwork, so I was worried when I dropped the car off in case it was returned with a poor job, but I'm really pleased that these 2 marks are addressed in time for the winter.

Where abouts did you have it done I'm looking for a good place to address two little patches of bubbling on my roof what sort of price did you pay. Cheers
Robert.

I'm near Nottingham and always go to C&R Enterprises (local VAG specialist) who I've entrusted with all my annual servicing and any other major work on the car. Excellent & personal service as ever. They use a 3rd party for the bodywork. At the same time as addressing the 2 rear rust spots I also had some preventative treatment done on the 2 front wheel arches where there were minor signs of corrosion starting under the lip of the wheel arch.

How old is your car? Might qualify for warranty work foc.

You may have had a chance if it 2003 as can't remember if anti corrosion is 10 or 12 years.

I didn't know that you learn something new every day I will keep it in mind when I buy my next Audi thanks again.

I believe it is 12 yrs, but my rust spots were clearly the result of stone chips so I just decided to get the work done myself.

Restored my headlights.
I used 800 Grit wet and dry followed by 2000 Grit then Plast-RX and a soft foam pad attached to my drill.

Pre restoration versus Post restoration:

Not so much done today, but have recently replaced the shoddy leftovers of the previous owner's audio-system. Lefthand door had a composet with only the woofer wired up. The tweeter wasn't even in the fixture, it was hanging around. Righthand door had only the tweeter wired up.
Right rear had an original VAG speaker in. Left rear had nothing in. No wonder that didn't work.
Put new Blaupunkt speakers in, with the world's ugliest mdf speaker rings, if I do say so myself. Installed a small subwoofer under the seat.
All sounds great now :)

Bought a centre armrest from a junkyard, went to install it 2 weeks ago, but didn't come with any bolts, so went to the local dealer to get those. Got there at 12:01, workshop closed at 12:00. Rang them on Monday, ordered the bits I needed, picked them up 2 days later. Then it rained all weekend so am still driving around with part of the interior trim lying on the back seat. Hoping to finish it off this weekend, so I can hoon without stuff flying around in the back.

Also managed to delay my purchase of a TIP and airfilter, by dropping my phone flat onto asphalt, great fun.

yesterday, four new goodyear eagle f1's (via blackcircles) to replace the mixed bag that came with the car.

today - headlamp alignment and refurb plus new bulbs. it is cats and dogs out there, so why not be tucked up in the garage?

Long day change the radiator on my dads 2.8 pajero and referbed the alternator for him. Then moved on to my a3 done the track arms and the antiroll bar drop links and bushes titened up the slopy steering. Changed the oil and filter also did the fuel filter air filter. The car is now ready for the long trips to see the family before xmass.

Sorted my headlights with a new switch! I have lights again! Woohoo!

tried to fix my leaky downpipe gasket, couldn't get the car up high enough to get under it (narrow drive way so can't jack up both sides!) so giving up and going to get it on a lift and get someone else to do it :beerchug:

Finally replaced broken blue clips in drivers window it now goes up and down instead of just down

Debadged the rear end ready for some gloss black rings..

Washed and cleaned inside and out..
Tried to raid goodies I know are waiting for me amongst all the Xmas pressies...missus caught me shouted at me and then made me make my own brews for the day

Also found a rather alarming amount of oil around the pancake pipe but all is in hand...

New discs pads and brake fluid to be done this weekend and then Just about ready for a remap in the new year

fitted a set of red 2.0tfsi coilpacks and a set of NGK BKR7E spark plugs, tomorrows job is to fix a leaky breather system and fit a catch can :) hopefully will gain some mpg back then just waiting on oil and oil filter then can get that done.

Does it make a difference if we fit the tfci coil packs on audi a3?

Not sure on an as but my bam its made abit of a difference but could be down the the spark plugs aswell tho. Seems to start alot better and runs alot smoother. Idlss better too

Got my car back after getting a new lamba sensor fitted and the oil leak sorted on the transfer box, turned out that the turbo was loose and the oil return pipe leaking. Now it's got a boost leak as it's making a screeching sound under load and to add to it, the screen wash mooted have decided to stop working.

Fitted a new thermostat today. It was that cold outside the water on the car started to freeze.

how was it to do? i have that to asap on my s3

It wasn't too bad other than how cold it was. I have a small good quality socket set with an elbow and extension bars. After removing the plastic cover and then the metal plate on front on the manifold I then removed the dipstick for more access. I didn't move anything else (some guides say disconnect the alternator etc.) as you can just get access with one hand. The top bolt is accessible with a 10mm socket and small ratchet but the lower bolt is a little more tricky but doable - just keep trying combinations of the socket with the elbow and bars/ratchet.

I did mine at night in about 2 degrees cold but had a 400w halogen floodlamp to light the way. Replaced the thermostat with an OEM part as well as OEM coolant at 60 water/40 coolant mix.

thats great, just been to audi and got some coolant :)just got a couple of universal joints, see if they will work :)
