I asked what they do, dipped in chemicals to remove paint (tyres off obviously lol) bead blasted to clean them up, damage to rims repaired, and powder coated then baked.

Bradders: most of that damage looks like its come from kerbing or maybe a really rough tyre fitter...

Most of powdercoaters will work on RAL colors. Obviously they wont have all from the pallet so you would have to call and ask about the color number you want.

my brother got his beemer wheels done recently.

He picked a metallic paint code, which you cant do with powdercoat. Seemingly they used a powder primer, painted the wheels, then used a powder clearcoat to protect them.

Yeah, they had some sitting as you go into reception. Along with strut tops, other car parts, aluminium drink bottle. Lovely finishing. Not expecting my wheels to be THAT immaculate due to corrosion, as long as they're pretty tidy I'll be happy enough. I'll get good before and afters of the 4 on the car, they're the worst and will be my winter set

Changed the sparkplugs and can't believe the difference it's made, feels like it's gained 20bhp or so :D not sure how many miles it's done on the old set of plugs

Just need to change the fuel and air filters and it's had everything done in the last 400miles

I've been using the factory Concert stereo with a GROM interface for a few months but decided an upgrade was in order!

It went in ok (once I had figured out the various wiring adapters!) and sounds great after some tuning. Eventually I'd like to run wiring to the rear door speakers but I'm not brave enough yet :)

Thought id risk getting home on half way between the light and empty as left work a little late and had to get the kids from Childminders and tesco is always packed at that time so i went about it as i set off it dropped just over the empty line watched the dis and it went from 5 miles to 0 at trip reading 311m got to shell garage near my house and it was reading 328m and that was driving at 60 then 70 for a mile or two !! Averaged 28mpg this week so not to bad for the old girl lol

More work recently, 17" RS4 replicas (I bought replica centre caps too and they don't fit too well, does anyone know where to get caps that fit?) and more recently 35w 5000k HID bulbs.

Unfortunately I discovered yesterday that the OSF brake is binding slightly, it explains the gradually decreasing economy! Off to the garage tomorrow as it's not a job I'm confident doing myself!

You've evidently not played fuel light bingo very much with these cars have you? :p

I've done about 15miles on the motorway before with it showing "0 miles" on the DIS and still only managed to fit about 56 litres of fuel into the tank.

I recon theres about a gallon left in it when it says "0 miles"

Whilst waiting to get to the scrappy this aft (waiting for someone to service the house boiler) I fitted F/L rear light to try and make the old girl look more 'with it'. I know fitting these won't cure to electrical issue I currently have but at least it's a little more aesthetically pleasing to look at whilst parked up with her backside facing the house!

Probably give it a good clean and keep it. The wife has shown an interest in it and she will sell her Citroen Xsara. Although the Xsara does 66mpg and it an estate for the tip trips etc. So might just have to keep all 3 cars!

Do you still have the 2.8 B5 silver Avant? or was it scrapped?

Broke it for parts and the shell went to the scrappy. Still got quite a few bits of it knocking around though, its gearbox is in the wifes car still, its front subframe is on my car and the front suspension arms are on my track car, amongst other bits.

started on the MOT prep work... cleaned the new subframe up yesterday with the grinder and wire wheel. went in to the garage and could only find blue hammerite... guess what colour my subframe went.. will get some pics tomorrow.
also stripped the drivers wing off as it was rotten. discovered I need a plastic arch liner.
the wing ive got to go on isint as good as I hoped it has some bubbles starting so it will do for now to get it through its mot.
again cleaned up the sills with the wire wheel. they have a good cover off red oxide at the moment but have black stone guard to go on tomorrow

I have to admit.. I love my car.
I know it needs a bit of tidying up which im doing slowly but surely..
but it just fits us nicely. we live semi rural so the quattro is a great thing. plus with it being the avant its a handy bus.
plus I hate the newer PD lumps with a passion so the old AFN 110 lump suits me perfect.
Ive had a few folk chap the door and offer to buy it and also approached when out and about with it. I honestly cant see me parting with it..

I don't find the PD as reliable, there not as good on fuel, they don't like high miles compared to the old VE engines
    this isint just my opinion..
my wee brother works for a diesel specialist and he says the PD engined cars tend to be more problematic compared to the old VE lumps.

my mates brother says he used to use the vag stuff for taxis but since they went PD he shied away from them as once they got to 200k plus they tend to need a bottom end rebuild or replacement engine whereas the older ones would run over 300k and still keep going

dont get me wrong the PD engined cars are quicker but at what cost?

Fair enough, was just wondering :)

My B6 is a PD engine, and it's been great so far (186k miles) so I can't complain. I've heard the earlier engines are more bullet proof. I think its a general trend though, newer engines seem to be more about efficiency rather than reliability.

If my b6 makes it to 200k (only do about 7k miles a year) i'll be happy. I'll either pick another one up or more onto a different engine.

The PD bottom end is stronger than the VE one, infact, folk building big power VE engines sometimes use the PD bottom end due to the increased strength.

They're arguably more complicated, but in reality your swapping a complex expensive injector pump, for comparative simple but still expensive unit injectors and letting an ECU do the complex stuff.

They ofcourse do have their issues, cam wear being one of them.

And the other big factor is not many people will run their car to 300k (or even 200k). Unless they're particularly attached to it, it'll have gone wrong in some expensive way long before the engine expires and got punted on or scrapped.

I had a few PD engines. 1.9 130bhp, 3x 2.0 170BHP and now on 1.9 100bhp. Other than the 100bhp being massively underpowered in Altea, had only a problem with leon and the stupid dpf in 2.0tdi. Dpf stopped regenerating and clogged up the turbo, which after a while cocked up the seals. Would get a CR now any time. Have to say though, all 3 of the 2.0tdi struggled to get average above 45mpg.

well I got the sills painted with stone guard and behind the wing. I also painted the inside of the replacement wing with stone guard.
I also stripped my rear caliper down and cleaned the slides and freed of the handbrake mechanism.
so my next question is.. I find the spring on the caliper to release the handbrake doesnt want to fully release it.
I can easily move it fully up easily by hand but the spring doesnt want to fully release it. is there a way to adjust this?

so heres a wee pic of the replacement wing.. theres a wee bit of rust where the mud flap was on the breaker but ill get that seen to asap

my PD 130 was terrible on fuel as well. I couldn't average above 50mpg where as my 110 can easily see 55+mpg average and thats constant 4 wheel drive.
my old 2wd was always above 60mpg average. the best ive seen with the quattro was 64.1 on a run to Aberdeen

The funny thing is that I was getting exactly same mileage in fwd leon than two quattro A4's. Leon was quicker though ;)
