What have you done to your 8V today?

@pburv remember mileage only counts if you hand it straight back to them. You're on a PCP aren't you, Paul??? As long as you trade it in you can trade it in with 40k on it.

I think on a 3 year PCP you really need to be in the final year to try and get any sort of equity or break even. The depreciation curve tends to be quite steep at the beginning, then smooths off a bit.

How old will your car be @pburv when you plan to change?

@Gordo77 having kids and everything that goes with them = untidy garage. Especially when they start getting gymnastics matts that require storage! :wtf:

I would guess most of the depreciation will have happened within the first 3 years, so it might work out good for you to change then. :)

Today, I took mine to Mercedes, parked it up and went in to check out A-Classes. They had an A250 Petronas edition. Lovely seats, amazing in fact, but the plastics were atrocious compared to the Audi. I was genuinely surprised!
I've got an A45 on ETD later in the week but I'm not sure now...

Not far wrong actually! He didn't see it but I told him it was mapped and his eyes lit up, he smiled and said "I bet that's quick"!

Saturday was down to my local VW Audi specialist to have a couple of VCDS mods done, exhaust flaps set to open & oil temp gauge set.
Flaps open easy, oil temp is there in the lap time mode & also separate in the ''car'' mode when scrolling through the settings using the left hand wheel on the MFSW. I though the oil gauge could be set so it shows in all the menus on the DIS?. If so can't seem to get it to work on mine?.

Does this mean the flaps are open all the time? even in comfort mode?

''Yes''. Set to open on the VCDS. Not stupidly loud & to be honest only a touch over standard. Worth doing.

Got a row from my local Audi dealer whilst in for some warranty work on my MMI for having left hand mirror dip, Needle sweep, and Chirp upon opening and closing enabled. Was told if the codes show again it'll invalidate my warranty. I kindly reminded them who bought, paid and owns the car and left, they won't see me back there anytime soon.
Just to give you a laugh I got my courtesy car yesterday and the service department lady said "it's an automatic" I then replied " It's been a while since I've driven a DSG" and she looked at me and asked "What's a DSG" !!

Try this, it works on mine fine:

Set Oil Temperature on all DIS Menus
--------------------
[17] Instruments -> Long Coding -> Byte 10
CHANGE: Enable Bit 1. Display Oil Temperature

Took delivery of all these in preparation for the big install. Just the wiring and connectors to get and we're in business :blackrs4:

I've done both of these to mine! The mirror dip is very useful with my wheels having stretched tyres, helps me prevent scuffing them

........any chance you could post a picture of your instruments with the oil temp displayed please?. Just checked the print out I took to my specialist & as before I have the oil temp gauge in the lap timer & it's in an option in the ''scroll'' menu with the left hand wheel of the steering wheel but can't seem to be able to set it so it shows in all the DIS options?.

Yes of course, I put it in various menu modes to see how if you can put:
kK4xePI.jpg

In the screen oil was "---" temperature it is because if the temperature does not reach 50ºC (122°F)

wk5kw8a.jpg

M0uf0gU.jpg

In onboard computer

xMO13eW.jpg

In digital speedometer

Laptimer.jpg

On laptimer

the only screen can not display the oil temperature is the economy screen (green)
I took pictures I had on the phone, but if you need some more or video or whatever, ask for it without obligation!

Many thanks for the pictures. Mine is the same in pics 1,2,3 & again it's the same with the lap timer. Only one not tried is the digital speedo so maybe it is correct on mine & I just read the orginal post wrong?.
Thanks again for the help.

you are well on, are all screens where the oil temperature apears, no more :)

Well seem to have all the functions in the pictures apart from the digital speedo where in the lowest box instead of the oil gauge I get the date/month/year?.

Have you tried scrolling? When I did mine it came up half way through the scrolling list.

''yes'' batch. As in my previous post it's there when in lap time mode & when I scroll through the menu with the left hand dial on the steering wheel as in the 2nd & 3rd pictures I can select it there but not when I try in digital speedo?. I can live with it as it is but wonder why it won't show in all the settings?.
We played around with it a good while last Saturday ,using the guide on here & it did say on the settings ''oil temperature'' set after we used the guide?.

Crashed it :(

Well I say crashed it, a lorry crashed into me as I was apparently I was in his blind spot when he changed lane coming off a roundabout. He has admitted full responsibility and I have dash cam footage showing us side by side and then the subsequent bang as he comes across so my insurance are obviously going 100% his fault.

Damage to the rear bumper, side panel and the rear off side alloy. I'm no expert but I would say the best part of £1000 worth of damage.

Still frustrating though!

Nightmare. Although, his insurance company may not be as quick to apportion blame. Can you put the footage up here??
The reason I say that is the unwritten rules of the road says you don't go up the inside of a lorry or bus on or coming off a roundabout.
Not saying he wasn't at fault but without seeing the incident we can only surmise.

Hope you get things sorted out quickly.

Will try and post the footage later when I get home. It was on a traffic light controlled roundabout on a dual carriageway where both the left and middle lane go straight on.

He was in the middle and I was in the left and as the lights went green, we both pulled away side by side but neither of us at the front of our respective queues.

I can only guess that as he was in an arctic, he wanted to be in the left lane as we got onto the main drag of the dual carriageway so started to pull over into my lane as we were still side by side.

It was the A4174 for anyone who knows Bristol.

Got a few things done by Midland VW this week:

Big service
Golf R Mk7 brake set up fitted
H&R Street coilovers fitted + alignment
12mm front and 15mm rear spacers (might change the rears to 12mm too..)
034 dogbone engine mount
Carbon mirrors fitted

Over the moon with the results, car handles like its on rails with negligible body roll but it certainly rides firmer. Was thinking about the eibach anti-roll bar kit but don't feel the need to anymore. Was meant to fit Eibach sportlines but then someone was selling a set of these coilovers in classfieds and I couldnt ignore them. Brakes feel fab too with strong stopping power and no judder in harder driving. Only issue was rear backing plates didn't fit so mk7 GTI PP ones are on order to be fitted instead.

034 dogbone engine mount is a relatively cheap mod which I recommend, added a bit more NVH though and a tad more engine noise in the cabin too. In turn I no longer get wheel hop when losing traction at low speeds and when driving hard theres no slack or that feeling of the engine interia as you slow down or speed up thus, the car just feels so much more responsive and urgent. I recommend people to try it as its easy to fit and the original outlay of buying it in the first place won't hurt the bank too much if you really don't like it. I had doubts before fitting but mines staying on!

I've done all these mods together so the car feels completely transformed!! Just WOW. Can't wait to spend the weekend driving it which I've never quite felt before.

Midland VW are brilliant and can't recommend their professionalism and knowledge enough. Top bunch of people.

Cheers
SJ

P.S And obviously..... Pics to follow !!
