Admin/mods please advise.
Looking for that myself.
So if i was to install some HiD's from the internet it would damage my wiper motor
Once again can I ask - where is the sticky to help people understand the problem and why was it removed ? Sandra, Voorhees et al could you investigate please ? There are still a lot of queries, mainly from newer forum members, and the sticky was referred to many times.
Just found this,
I will have a look for you Mike. x
Thanks Sandra - look forward to hearing the result !
Jonathaan - on your head be it mate, I'm just trying to help you avoid having to replace your wiper motor !
Suggest you pm gazz and see how things are going !
Yeeee, how much are these "Wiper Motors" ?
About £210 to buy but no idea the cost of fitting !
Ah. That kind of makes me think twice, will message that guy and see what he says - as i cannot afford the Projector HiD jobbys
Just being doing a little re-search on this subject as i was planning on instaling some HiDs this weekend, Very Glad i was warned now lol.
But i have come across this has anybody every had any dealings with them?
Audi A3 (2003-) HID Xenon Lights Conversion Kit
Jonathaan, they are talking utter rubbish and in any event, not surprisingly, the product is out of stock !
They probably didn't work properly in the first place !
I have aftermarket HID's fitted to mine (when I bought it) no idea how long they have been on the car but I havet had a blown motor.. yet.

Can anyone explain exactly why they blow the wiper motor??
few possible reasons... firstly the car is supplying more power to the bulbs than needed, when you first turn the lights on it sends back a surge that blows the wiper motor. the wiper motor and the headlights both share a common ground connection so this could also be it.
also when you have oem xenons the car is coded and knows that it has xenons so supplys the right power, this is not the case with the aftermarket jobbies and before anyone asks you cannot code in aftermarket xenons to the car as the CE module will not be able to talk to it.
well I'm not an electronics engineer.. but..
Common ground - The whole car shares a common ground, so just because they share the same ground terminal as the wipers shouldn't make a difference. You could also install a heavy duty Zener Diode into the ground of the wipers. This would prevent a 'back surge'.
Drawing more power - All the new HID kits (in my research) include relays, which the early ones didn't. Basically when you turn on the lights at the stalk the relay on the HID's will connect. The relay is usually directly wired to draw power from somewhere like the positive battery terminal.
Nick it's not just the current surge we are talking about. HID's cause high frequency spikes in the system which affect the electronics as well.
I suppose you could fit HF chokes to block these spikes and maybe OEM xenons have these built into the ballast etc. but suffice to say that enough people had the problem to warrant a sticky (now removed for some reason ) !
Maybe the A3 is too sensitive or something but it still seems to pose a risk if fitting aftermarket equipment.
I want hids, but can't afford oem. And tbh, can't afford to replace my wiper motor lol.
I've read lots of people with no issues, lots with.
Some claiming to have fixed the issue. The earth wire seems plausible, being canbus.
If you split the earth point, it should be OK. It will always take the path of least resistance.
.I'm getting some bulbs from t8ups, then if not satisfied, I'll try an El cheapo kit and the earth mod.
I would say you should be able to; there is not much "talking" involved between the ballast and the car, it is looking for a certain resistance IMO. My car worked fine coded the "other" way round. For example, a car coded for xenons but replaced with halogen units will not show error codes for example. I put halogens back in my old A3 removing my coded OEM xenons and completely forgot to re-code back to halogen it before I sold it but there were no issues/bulb errors and the light operated fine, so I would therefore recommend trying to code the car for xenons if you fit any HID kit to prevent strobing and bulb errors if nothing else.
My car doesn't run AUDI ballasts but BMW units and it works fine, usual strobing on halogen setting but when coded to xenon it works fine.
Sorry to bring this up again...
On the topic of HiD's blow the motor - has anybody got a recomended replacement Halogen lamp?
Looking around i have seen these;PIAA H7 Xtreme extreme White Plus NEW!! | eBay But they look rather expensive and would like to know if anybody on here has got a reliable replacement for HiD, or if they have tryed these i have posted.
£55.39 for 2 bulbs?!?!
t8ups on here does some good lighting kits, I've got his interior lights but not tried his headlight ones. Maybe worth dropping him a PM.
JamesO has got some decent looking bulbs in his which seem very good for the price.

Sorry to ask this dumb question, but where exactly was it a sticky, and does anyone know the thread title?
I will try and find it, but need this information to make it easier.
Anyone one of the threads in the search results below?
Hi jojo - it was a thread entitled 'non OED xenons blowing wiper motor' or very similar.
It was put on the A3 8P forum as a sticky and was viewed and contributed to hundreds, if not thousands of times.
I can't remember when it disappeared but must have been before July this year as that was when I asked the question.
I do remember a discussion about how many 'stickies' to have and which to get rid of so maybe admin made a decision.
That link to threads in your post #23 doesn't work !
Still looking for it.
I think it only works on my terminal, sorry.
How's the search going everyone ??
It's gone. The internet ate it.

Whilst your at it, could you put T8ups thread as a sticky with non-error code LED's, people still seem to be buying the wrong ones..
I brought a set from the company around the corner from me,I orignally knew they were £35 as some off my mates had fotted them in toher cars..He then said to me they blow the motors so suggested these other ones that run two resistors and will not blow your window wiper motor ,
Yes they cost £60 but saves me buying a new motor and had them in my car for 3months now..and they look awesome and can see so much better now!
Found this thread through Google, don't know what chassis audi u guys are talking about but I'm assuming 8P or newer. Iv found some aftermarket kit for £60 that finally claim to garauntee not to blow your windscreen motor. Iv posted a link to it on a thread I made on the 8P chassis forum, have a look.
