Hi. Looking for some advice, I know this sounds crazy but I do not know if I have a DSG Box. I have just bought an Audi A3 2.0 FSI 53 plate. The Gearbox is silver in colour and I do have the flappy paddles on the wheel. Is this the DSG box or just a standard auto?

Also the Box appears to be quite Jerky, particularly when changing down on a hill for example and when first starting out.... Is this a common problem or just a quirk I need to get used to?!

    Thanks,
    Andrew

If you look in the sticker in the Service Book or under the cover in the luggage area it will tell you a gearbox code. On line 5 there will a 3 digit on the left-hand side which will be the Engine code. On the right-hand side on the same line will be a further 3 digit code and this will be the gearbox code.

Note these numbers and let me know and I will be able to check exactly which type of gearbox is fitted.

Thanks for the information, the search has shown up to be a normal auto box, I was not aware the normal auto box could come wioth the flappy paddles but was not sure.... Anyone got any experiences on the box not being very smooth and a bit jerky, it is due a service in Dec, could a gearbox oild change sort this? Thanks

Hi, just wondering if anyone else can shed light, does having a flappy paddle gearbox mean it is s-tronic / DSG or does the standard auto box come with the paddles? Thanks :)

    I got the DSG

I have the flappy paddles on the steering wheel.
The gearstick where you can change gears up and down from there.
    And P R N D S.

I had a jetta and that was DSG but didn't have the flappy paddles..it said dsg on the gearstick

Dont know how that works out but you have the DSG which is also a S-tronic as well... as far as im aware, there is no difference between the dsg and s-tronic (and R-tronic).

As for jerky, it shouldnt be doing that. Check when the oil in the gearbox was last changed.

Thats where i learnt it from

If you have a 2.0FSI engine it will be an old fashioned tiptronic gearbox, If you have the 2.0T it will be the DSG. Unfortunately the 2.0FSI was never produced with DSG.

Andrew. It will be a standard auto box, not DSG.

    See my recent post: http://audi-sport.net/vb/showthread.php?t=63212

I have the same age and type of car + gearbox as you. Same problem too! Let me know if changing gearbox oil helps for you.

    Cheers
