what do i ask for..

    needing new ones. ill do both sides. what do i ask for and are they a bitch to change? ill do these whith the strut off as i have just orderd some coilies.

    track rod end / tie rod end.
    should be fairly straightforward as long as you are able to undo the bolts

    The kit i linked to in the other thread comes with them, but yer they are called track rod ends or tie rod ends

    Don't forget you'll need an alignment afterwards, but if you're fitting coilovers too that's good timing to get it done.

    yep plan is to get it all done at same time. never have alignment done b4, where would i go and how much roughly?

    well def not audi as they overcharge & dont use there heads just follow the book, so if you have a even the most minutely slight buckle from some knock they dont know how to compensate with adjustments, they just have settings & thats it so if you end up driving round in circles they say "well its set as per audi says so its correct" lol, lolFind a reputable tyre place not kwik fit with a decent system thats regularly calibrated, then test drive for any pulling to the side then go back for adjustments.

    I would say £50 approx is fair, nowhere near the reported £200 from one audi dealership, but if you are doing suspension arent you getting it fitted or DIY cause fitters should have the system to do for you.

    Yes its a tie rod bush.

    Yes the dealer may well be in the region of £180-£200 but some have a set price, so at their hourly rates, it works out well (for a dealer).

    Ideally find a specialist that has the correct Beisbarth machines such a specialist alignment service or VAG specialist such as AutoPS. I'd still expect to pay £80-£100.

    Just an additional note, you may find the replacement tie rod end is not identical to the one you remove, when I had mine changed it appeared the part had been revised.

    You do realise that none of the geometry is acutally adjustable on a B5 bar the tracking/toe settings and the left to right camber distribution. The camber on individual sides isnt adjustable, the overall balance is only adjustable if you unbolt the subframe and move it side to side.

    That means that unless the subframe has been removed or you suspect the camber to be uneven then the only thing thats acutally worth paying money for is the tracking/toe adjustments.

    A full alignment check may highlight things that are out of spec, but they're not actually adjustable so it would just mean replacing the suspect part.

    and how exactly do you intend to set the camber when its not adjustable?
