It sounds a bit strange but my A4 has had this problem for a couple of years now and I have come to 'know' it quite well ........

When it's warm/sunny, but only then, my centre rear brake light warning comes on. Most of the time the warning is correct and the brake light is not illuminating, however, occasionally it will be working despite the dashboard telling me otherwise.

It's been looked at by a dealer and an independent specialist but neither of them could fine the problem (I actually don't think they believed me as it wasn't playing-up when they've seen it).

It's almost to the point where, a quick check of the weather and I'll be able to tell if the brake light is going to be working or not, before I've even sat in the car!

Anyone got any ideas, please??

Expansion & contraction on a connection or a dry-joint solder connection.

Undo & Redo every connection plug asociated with rear lights and check the brake lamp fitting and if its a pcb check all solder.

Thanks AQ, that makes sense.

Sounds like there might be a lot of 'checking' to be done, hence the reason the dealers didn't (wouldn't?) look at it.

Any more on this? My b8 throws the error when I first hit the brake pedal. But also weather dependant.

Rear center led cluster is fine. I've had it out and reconnected it.

Help

Sorry, no progress. I had a cursory look at the easiest accessed connections but it made no difference. Looks like I'm going to have hand over more money to get it looked at again :-(

Mine did this when I had the car 2 years ago............I removed the center light.........and went over the circuit board with a soldering iron..........must of been dry joints..........it fixed the problem..........never had the problem again..........common.

Anyone tell me how to get the centre brake light out on an avant? I have 1 LED out and it's driving me mad. Have had the interior trim off but have no idea what to do after that!
