Does anyone know how easy it is to change your own water pump on a 97 A3?

think it might be going, so was thinking of changing it?

Basically the same as replacing the cambelt, since it's got to come off to allow you to change the
water pump. Check out harry the cake HTC excellent write up at

Since you've got to go all that way, might aswell replace belt and tensioner+pulley at same time. Job is not easy though...for the semi experienced with the right tools i would think 4-6 hours...there's is little space to work in! At the stealers - quotes range between £330 (v. cheap) to £500ish. If DIY , you're looking at parts prices with VAT coming to £120ish

Cambelt £12-20
Tensioner £35
Tensioner pulley £19
Water Pump £26
Coolant £5

to change teh water pump you do not need to remove the whole belt but it is easier with the car on a ramp!!!!!!
