On what engine? The 6 cylinder models are quite a bit more costly.

That's interesting. I needed to get mine done this week and due to commitments, time off and distance for other garages. I had to book it into Hadwins Audi. I got a quote of £699, I'm dropping it off tomorrow. I'll be discussing this before I drop off the keys and if it's no good. I can drive away and just have to try and sort it else where.

I had mine done at Audi a few weeks a go and it cost £420 with all belts, pump etc etc and courtesy car for the day. My friend had his done at a none Audi garage at the same time and they didn't put his bumper back on right and cocked his computer up as well - all to save a few quid!

i do them all the time hence it taking me two hours. if you buy the parts yourself out of TPS and get someone to do it it will be far cheaper. audi like every one else are robbing bastards. it pays to have someone you trust do the work.

sooo how much should be lookin at on the 1.8t engine. as im gettin mine done too in next few weeks. best quote i had so far was 280 from a vag specialist garage in Maidstone. that was including water pump too. that sound reasonable? also these should be done every 60k or so correct?

sorry to hijack mate, just same query really :)

I took the car into Audi today and they've told me to get a quote from stafford audi for the 395, email it to them and they'll look at it.

£395 from stafford only covers the cambelt and the tensioner. Not the pump belt, other tensioners and belts.

yer and how much do they charge for the belts? not £300 extra!

but more to the point, they need to take them old ones off anyway, what they are charging you extra for as if it was a job on its own, they do all this pants pulling down because they can get away with it with the corporate customers who drive company cars who dont give a rats arse about the bill or what's being done, they just sign for it and there company pay for it and the tax man rights it off, Audi win all day long, i had a long and deep chat with my audi service manager about how i was not a corporate customer and i knew how it all works out the back, so i was not having my pants pulled down if he wanted my custom,

like i say, i do this job all the time and i get all the parts from TPS so i know how much the parts are. its not a big job for a mechanic and if they get stuck into it it is only 2 hours. its like turkster says when you go to audi and price it they fill you full of ****. i bet all across the country the prices are so different it would scare you. where i work we get all sorts of audis cause the word is we do it right with propper parts and i would say 40 percent off the people say they were quoted a small fortune from audi. so shop about lads and go with someone who comes highly recomended..

Yeah I know the one. Took my Leon in there for a few things. Like a service and when it came back out I had no power steering fluid and it went in as the window dropped Into the door and when it came back out the drivers door was leaking. So I am lacking a bit of faith in them to be fair.

Just found out my mates bro can do em. So happy days. And services and he can stamp ur book

I can supply and fit full contitech cambelt kit, KWP water pump (with metal impeller), aux. belts, 5 L of g12 antifreeze for 250 quid for 1.9 Tdi and 450 for v6 petrol/v6 tdi (these include a genuine thermostat + seal just in case)...I am based in N. London but i am also mobile. I've done a fair few hundreds cambelts to fellow forum members (uk passats, vw audi forum, audi srs, etc.). Chris- 077 899 12128.

If anyone is getting theirs done remember to get your book stamped and dated! Most of my mates had forgot, and lost there receipt so when they came to re-sell they had problems proving it had been done

Its really not too bad a job for a competent home mechanic, pull off front bumper and put in service position, remove aux belt and tensioner, remove top cam cover, remove bottom pulley and bottom cover. I got all my parts from TPS when they had an extra 10% off cambelt kits, (i have a trade account), just set cylinder 1 to TDC and check mark on cam is aligned, i put my own marks on the bottom pulley before i take old belt off, no need to guess the tension as it's done automatically with an oil filled damper. Put on new roller tensioner and replace the damper if its done over 120K or looks like its leaking oil.
When i did the belt and damper on my 1.8T B5, the tensioning idler roller was missing and the belt had been rubbing on the lug on the damper body for over 70K miles, the belt had been done when i bought the car in 2003 by a so called Audi specialist! I like to do as much as i possibly can as i believe i can do a better job than most garages, i like to take my time and clean everything, copper slip screws/bolts, torque and loctite screws etc. It may take me 6 hours, but its a good feeling afterwards.

Just had my cambelt changed on 1.9tdi 130bhp £269 no need to replace water pump still going strong so advised nto needed to replace, where Audi wanted £349 plus vat then another £100 for pump if it needed replacing (knowing them they would off chnaged it)

I hope you still feel so satisfied if in 9 months time the water pump gives up the ghost! No wonder they recommended not to do it, be another lucrative job for them if it goes!

no not at all, did some research and it seems that the 1.9 TDI seem bullet proof (now in nine months I will eat my words lol), well if it does go wrong I will just take back to them to repair as they were happy for it not to be changed as I even questioned that the pump should of been changed.
If you got the V6 I understand that it should be replaced as these do wear very easily
