After a couple of months of deliberation, then a few more months waiting for build the S5 has finally arrived and is now sat on our driveway rather than in Sheerness.

Needless to say I'm very pleased with the car, it's everything I could have wished for (even from the short drive home). It's done 23 miles since being built, but no doubt that will increase significantly this weekend. Unlike Snake's car there was no big reveal at the dealers with special cloths etc., the car was parked outside the front entrance looking slightly dirty but thankfully unsnarled.

The options on the car are as follows:

    Black Edition pack (19" Anthracite Rotors / Tints / Black Optics / B&O / MMI 3G / AMI)
    Lunar/Black Super Sports seats
    Tech Pack High
Comfort Pack (inc. heated / folding / dimming mirrors)
    Memory Seats
    Audi Drive Select
    Sports Diff
    Damper Control
    Dynamic Steering
    Parking Advanced with rear camera
    Advanced Key / Start Button
Phone prep high with Audi Mobile Connect
    TPMS
    Heated Seats
    Storage Pack

So a few photos that were taken in a rush as it started to rain.

Then a couple of interior shots because it's such nice place to sit.

Then a few photos of some of the accessories / optional extras. The AMI cables were gratis which was nice.

The ribbed floor mat for extra pleasure ;-)

The AMI cables for the iPhone (red collar) and the Hard drive:

Not much to say at the moment, but needless to say there will be more updates during the coming days as I bolt the bits of tat on!

Looks, well... you know how it looks. ;)

It's absolutely lashing it down (borderline 'biblical') here at the moment, hope it's not doing it your way, would be a shame to get it this we straight away.

Had a black car years ago (only a crappy 1.6 SXi Astra but I loved it at the time) so hadn't really considered black since then but think the 5 really works in it, saw one recently and seeing the photos of yours would make me consider it in future. Think it looks better than, say, on the wife's Q5 somehow.

    1) Mats (S5 logo'd mats from Autostyle - £75) - Ease of job: Piece of piss

Start with an easy one, 4 mats out, 4 mats in. Simple as that! No elaboration required.

    2) Interior Light Pack (Trups @ EM Tuning £50) - Ease of fitting: Mildly challenging

The S5 comes with halogen interior bulbs which given the price / times is poor. There are a fair few to change, and given the way that Audi spring most of the light unit in with clips they're an absolute sh**ter to remove. So much so I'm now wearing a nice gouge on my left index finger. The only tool you will need other than a couple of flat blade screwdrivers in a T25 Torx driver for the overhead light. I'll post the pics, but if anyone has any burning questions about installation let me know:

    Halogen vs LED

The map light in the unit below are a b*****d, you have to remove the light unit with a T25 torn screw which is concealed in the sunglasses holder, then removed the lenses of the map reading light with a micro-screwdriver. You then remove the bulb housings, pull the bulb out of them, put the new LED bulbs in from the other side of the unit as they are too big to fit through the conventional hole, and then marry them up with the housing from the other side. Its the worst bulb I had to fit to be honest, but a bit of jiggery pokery got it in.

I also did the under door puddle lights, the outer door red LED's and the boot light but I'll add photos of them at a later stage.

    4) Number plates (£30 from internet plate maker): Ease of fitting - piece of piss

I wanted to change the plates as I hate the blue EU stripe on a black car, so I bought some custom plates online. The end result:

    5) Audi Valve Caps - Audi £21: Ease of fitting - imbecile

I'll forgive them for ordering the wrong ones (e.g. the non TPMS ones), but these look less fussy so I'm happy.

Congratulations mate - car looks exactly as I knew it would - Fantastic !

Can't believe how much work you've done already - respect :)

The interior / cabin IS a wonderful place to be isn't it - it is still something that impresses me.

Been out again in mine today weather was horrendous but Quattro S5 felt stable & planted in rather horrible wet conditions ... Just gotta love these S5's .... and you got one all to yourself now too.

You loving the 'leccy' action & comfort of those SSS pups then lol ?

I swear even the leather is of a higher quality / thicker / more padded than on my TTS too re: arm rests, steering wheel and seats.

    ENJOY !!!

Thanks for all the kind comments, just been out to dinner with the missus, she drove it home and loved it.

Only thing I'm not sold on at the moment is the B&O system. It's OK (better at some volumes than others), but there's a real gap in the sound spectrum between the mid bass and low end bass. Our home hi-fi system speakers are so ruthlessly accurate that non competition car audio equipment tends to sound a bit reedy. To be fair I'll let the speakers run in a bit and see if my view changes.

The seats are exceptional, and the sound of the engine makes up for the hifi.

Mate .... The B&O is great but it ain't gonna be up to spec with high end home hi-fi!

It's a few hundred quid worth of standard fit and in that context it's great and p*$$*s all over my previous Audi speakers ... But it's not high end custom equip.

Glad you enjoying the car AND SEATS though :)

Fair shout! My rear surround speakers cost more than the A5 B&O system! The front channels were about three times as much.

Fair shout Av4nt, I will turn the choonz off!

Are the rotors 19" or 20"? Look great. Also, following an interior LED upgrade on my late S3 I found the interior lighting to not as nice as the halogen. It's hard to explain but it lacked the warm glow and was more directional light if that makes sense. I know the A5 interior lights are diffused, does this help?

Diffused lights make a big difference as the intensity of the LEDs is reduced. Know what you mean as we had them in the S3 too and it's very cold colour, but yellow was just too warm.

They are 19" rotors, wish they were 20's! Also need the car to settle so the arch gap drops a bit. Would love to lower it 20mm but worried it will make the active dampers largely ineffective.

Re B&O ... The settings need tweaking forc EACH thing ie cd, radio, media iPod media card etc etc ... I set mine once and thought that as it so it does need sorting for all devices.

Also found the 'impressiveness' does vary from music type to music type - clearly it suits certain types office more than others - I find it's good with recordings with clear voice / live performances.

Just a few more points thought I'd add mate.

Wheel arch gap - hmmm, it does look a little high - from certain angles I find ... Looking at side profile dead on it looks high but move to the front of the car and look down the sides and it looks fine and you see the wonderful effect of the deep dish alloys.
Weird how it looks 'slightly' high from angle but fine from another ?

Very much agree. Dropping missus into work this morning we tried Jamie Cullum's live album of Momentum and it sounded amazing when sat stationary on the drive, but once driving we noted that road noise seemed to mask some of the mid band making it seem all top and bottom, so I'm less convinced it's the hifi and actually thinking it might be a byproduct of cabin noise.

Got the seats set up perfectly today and oh my god.... They are something else!

Now need to get VCDS out and work out how to tweak coming home lights so they come on very slightly earlier / for longer as last night despite being set up in Car Settings on MMI they weren't even working at 9:30pm.

Ha ha .... I did say the seats are a show stopper :)

The leccy adjustment, whilst also being very cool, allows you to get the right seating position with pin point accuracy doesn't it.

That coupled with the fact the seats are so supportive too = mega comfort !

Keep on tweaking the B&O settings mate and you'll get it somewhere half decent.

Thought I was going crazy when I was switching between each one and the settings seemed to "default" to original.

There are some settings in the MMI (sorry can't remember off hand where - under Car settings I think) where you can set the aggressiveness of the lights coming on which might be related. Even 'late' is still quite early but not an issue. I think for the coming home lights you might also need to have the light switch in the Auto position. Again can't remember off hand if that is the case but seem to recall my lights not coming on once after a service and got worried - but putting it into Auto 'solved' the problem.

Might save you a trip into VCDS, not that you won't be going in anyway I suppose. ;)

Remember that error message we had? It's fairly benign and some more info here just in case you wanted to double check it.

Just need to fabricate a reason to head over to Newbury again for a coffee and a perv at the car... :whistle2:
