I think this might turn out rather bad, just have a bad feeling, but hopefully i get proved wrong!
Today I took the A3 in, its an 02 reg, for the common bubbled under the paint on the roof.

On my car the paintwork has bubbled only on the driver side, towards the rear, and outside the gutter trim.
A local painter suggested and quoted to paint the rear quarter, as the damage is not on the inside of the trim to the roof panal.
Audi offered 70% goodwill, and quoted for a roof repair, not to paint the quarter.

I cannot see how they will blend the paint to factory finish without painting the rear quarter, but they insist sections of the roof only will be painted.

So as the price was similar, and the local guy wouldnt put a garentee on the rust not returning (when i took to audi for inspection there was no cracked paint, now there is), I left it with Audi this morning. They promised a free courtesy car, I specificly asked for a desel and they said thats fine.

Today I was told the a5 cab im driving home is a desel.

I got home and was pretty sure modern desels didnt drive this way and sure enough found it was an s line tfsi PETROL!

Phones Audi, waits two hours and no call back so call again to be told 'ive never booked that car out before (3k miles on it) so thought it was desel, most of our fleet is petrol though we wouldnt have promised you a desel!

Now I need to wait for a desel to come back in on time today/tomorow and swap them over. I have 4-500 miles to cover this week, if I'd known this id have hired a car local for the week!

On a plus note the sun is out and im sorely tempted to go play with the roof. Or vagcom... probably shouldnt do the later.

Lets hope the drama ends here!

they loaned you an a5 cab and your moaning its petrol?

why do you need a diesel so badly?

haha, I was thinking, if I gave my a3 tdi in for repair, and got a TFSI petrol convertible A5, I certainly wouldn't be upset

Sorry, don't get me wrong, its a great car and gererous offer of a courtesy car, but its going to drink twice the fuel my desel will this week, plus i have 'desel only' fuel accounts. Im hoping the end result is worth the pain!

What does stop start do?!

Well, it would appear my stop start only works when it feels like it, most annoying, stalled it 3 times in a row, as it kept starting and stopping again lol. All good fun though.
Im guessing there are certain conditions it doesnt stop in, although havent figured those out yet!

Anyway, Audi have kindly agreed to swap over for a desel A3, much better.
The A5 S-line is a great car, but at 30mpg on the moterway at 60-70 mph, I couldnt run it as my work horse. My other halfs 2.4 v6 A6 Auto is only a few mpg worse!

Audi still insist when i booked it in, they never mentioned a desel car. Slightly dissapointed as I specificly asked if they have any desels. That said i do accept that its hard to gerentee a specific car at a specific time!

WOOT!
much happier. Collected a 61 reg A3 2l TDI S-line today!
However, now i realise the A5 is a top end luxery car, and apreciate it a little more!
Going to have a play tomrow, couldnt get the phone to connect to it.
Defo a nice car though, it doesnt even feel too different to drive than my own A3. Just shows how well the cars age imo.

I also found out my car isnt being painted in house, and its making a 50 mile round trip to the body shop. Also they will only warranty the repair for one year. Is this normal?

also with the stop start you need to forget its there, dont drive differetly just cause its stopped

Whats the deal with this warranty?! whey are people having to pay 20% on what should be free? am i missing something? what sort of a warranty is only partly honoured?

I ask because my car has a few small patches of bubbling paint on the roof and will be calling Audi this week BUT would rather not have to pay for them to honour a warranty.

is there some kind of trick to getting this work done through audi without having to pay 20% these days?

I wouldn't worry an out them not blending, a decent body shop can make them blend fine with the correct thinners.

I also don't get the good will gesture! They need to get a grip, a good will feature comes if its only just out of warranty not before! If its within warranty they should be paying for the lot.

I cannot believe you had an A5 sline cab swapped for an A3, regardless of the situation, that is just madness. I would of raided the penny jar and paid for fuel myself.

I agree with this post. Why anyone would be happy to pay 30% is beyond me, I didn't. If the car's got original paint then it should be repaired free of charge, end of. Audi offer a 12 year anti perforation warranty and there is already a comprehensive thread running in the stickies about this subject which I suggest you read.

I agree, warranty should be free.
However im not un reasonable, its a ten year old car im not the first owner. There warrenty says I should notify them as soon as the problem is found. I suspect that due to the level of damage, it had been present about 18-24months before i owned the car. It was approx 3 months before i was made aware of the 12 year warranty by my local specialist.
So i fully understand how they could refuse the warranty on this basis.
However, I have the car back now and it looks ok. Weather is poor so cant check properly, but it looks like both roof rails have been resealed in with black sealant! (should i be able to see this?!) Rear quarter has been painted and theres no visible paint lines.

Due to lack of promised calls back on thursday to confirm collection on friday i called the body shop themselves, and they agreed to tidy up the rear quarter too!

Finally got a call today and collected the car, apparently several voicemails were left on my mobile that doesnt have a voicemail...

Anyway, cars clean, and first impression is good.

Apparently there was more labour than originally quoted(probably that rear quarter), and audi doncaster 'swallowed ' that cost. End of the day its got a years warranty, and looks a lot tidier now, so i cant really grumble at all.

Regarding the A5, swapping it for the A3 made me apreciate the A5 more, but the a3 has potential!
I certainly wont rule an A5 out for my next car, but thats a few years away yet!
