Hi Guys I have got an S3 and one of my indicator lamps has been staying on. I'll try and explain which one it is and hopefully somebody knows what it is indicating.

OK..below the speedo there are 6 indicator lamps.

    From left to right..

    1.???????
    2. Airbag
    3. ABS
    4. Handbrake
    5. Battery
    6. Seat belts

The 1st indicator lamp is the one which stays on. I have checked the manual and it has no reference to this indicator lamp. Does anybody know what it indicates?

If I could descibe what it looked like it might make some sense to me on what it is indicating, but it's too hard to describe. When you key on your engine it comes on then it should switch off afer a few seconds, but it stays on in my car.

The owners manual should detail what the light you're describing is.....If not then can you take a photo of it?

Unfortunately I dont have a digital camera.

I looked through the manual and I found it strange that it does not mention this warning lamp at all.

It could be the engine check lamp...the only way to describe it is that it is the first lamp on the speedo before the ABS lamp and it is yellow.

Ok so just had a look in my manual and RSW is on the money it's the engine management system warning lamp, and the icon you can see is to represent the engine with the block, flywheel at one end and the cooling fan at the other.

Ofcourse the manual states "Take the vehicle to an Audi dealer as soon as possible to have the fault put right", so you can do that or get someone with VAG-COM or something similar to hook up to your car and see what's going on.

Thanks for your help Gambba....I think you have hit the nail on the head. Atleast now I know its indicating there is a fault with EMS.

In my manual there is nothing on engine management fault lights. And on the pages with the warning lamps the diagram shows this symbol greyed out so it does not even refer to it.

Actually I think the light with the key/car is the immobiliser.
