Well it looks like I've melted a piston on the A4, all my own fault as the red oil light came on but as I wasn't getting any tappet noise I figured the pressure was good, WRONG! Oh well leason learned.

I love the car so I really want to fix it instead of settling for something else cheap. Therefore I need a 1.8T short block and pistons and someone to fit / recommend somewhere. I'm in Essex and I can get the car moved easy enough.

Quickest way to get me is astranks'at'msn.com

Red oil light means a pressure issue, and i'd imagine that seen as the pressure has dropped enough to kill the bottom end the cams arent likely to be in very good shape either.

I'd replace the whole engine tbh, its likely to be less work if you cant do it yourself (taking one engine out and fitting another takes a lot less time than taking yours out, rebuilding it and then refitting and will therefore be more cost effective)

Used you will be lucky to find one sub £600, a fully rebuilt unit will cost you around £1200.

I know i went through this when i blew mine a few months back

If you want an engine fitted, let me know.

I'm quite close to Braintree...
