Where's it blowing Westy? At the top or on the two bolt flange half way down? Both should be easily sorted shouldn't they? Don't have to remove the DP totally to change the gkaset, just push it acorss a tad!

    Maybe mate yeah. Thanks.

I need to know for sure if is blowing first but it does sound a bit weird when the turbo spools. It spools so easy and smooth now compared to the old mani. The pedal feel from the clutch is a delight too but feels like I'm driving a 1 litre van or something haha.

Can't tell at the moment mate. Wait till I get some pics uploaded and I'll show you the difficulties we had with the DP! We had to grind down the edge of the flange by the top bolt as it was hitting runner 4 on the mani. Total nightmare.

Dont leave it ticking over if you can help it westy it needs to be driven through the rev range with plenty of engine braking... esp the crucial first 20 miles....:icon_thumright:

Was chatting to Ben at parsons performance and he said to try and keep the driving as varied as possible and not to sit at the same revs for too long, then after 500 miles dump the oil and go for it! Those 500 miles will seem to take forever though

All sounds great, i wouldnt worry. The mani sounds really weird when first installed. Like a free flowing exhaust noise from the top of the downpipe area. Sounds awesome from outside the car when gassing it. You wont' really hear it till about 4000rpm. See how It goes.

no, load is important, but if you don't want to go mad with it.

Plenty of throttle, and use the revs too, take it to 6K or so.

The old believe is that the rings take ages to 'wear' into the bore.

Modern thinking is that higher cylinder pressure get into the Ring lands and forces the rings out into the bores harder thus creating a better 'scrape' so to speak.

but change the oil after first 20 miles though? correct? this is when the most material is worn off into the oil.

    its very important, and logical:

Change Your Oil Right Away !!
The best thing you can do for your engine is to change your oil and filter after the first 20 miles. Most of the wearing in process happens immediately, creating a lot of metal in the oil. Plus, the amount of leftover machining chips and other crud left behind in the manufacturing process is simply amazing !! You want to flush that stuff out before it gets recycled and embedded in the transmission gears, and oil pump etc...

    ^taken from the site

so basically you can do your initial full load runs, however many they recommend, 4-5. then drop the oil and change for more mineral oil. then go about your 500miles driving at varying speeds and loads. then you're done :icon_thumright:

It's time for some pictures :eyebrows:

I dont really need to do a full write so I'll just post lots of pics with a few notes ;)

All the gear set aside ready to start

Tam and Pete arrived with the engine hoist and engine stand then persuaded me to remove the block so we got cracking:

With the head off from the block we split into 2 teams. Tam and Pete on head duty, Stacey and myself doing the block work.

Tam and Pete set about changing over the VVT unit and Cams from the BAM head to the AEB head:

While Stace and I were doing the rods, piston rings, and oil pump................and the honing:

The mani was also put on the head then the head was put back on the block:

Also here you can see the fitment issues we had with the DP and Mani:

Then the engine went back in:

We did remove the DP and re-attached it with the engine hanging in the bay as it was easier due to us only dropping the subframe an inch or so.

Before I forget, I need to say some thank yous.

This build wouldn't have even been possible without the help I got this weekend from Tam, Pete, and Stacey. These lads know their stuff and were willing to work through to silly o'clock each night with very minimal sleep.

I also need to thank Jason, my parts advisor, for all the bits he's ordered in for me over the last 6 months.

Cheers guys I owe you all big time :beerchug: :applaus: :anbet: :friends:

It's a shame you weren't there for the start up as Pete came back just to see it then ended up helping and staying till nearly 2am lol

It's driving really nice. Feels so smooth and firm with the new engine mounts.

Am pretty gutted that i missed it mate but at least shes done :)

I'm not surprised it feels more firm after seeing how much firmer new mounts are compared to mine or your old ones it is night and day difference to feel in your hands so glad that has transposed to how it drives ;)

All rings were within the tolerance levels specified on Elsawin so no filing needed.

And remember, dont granny it, n75 off and a controlled spanking for 25miles, oil change and then use it properly.

Also Kev, the honing was a piece of cake :)

So after 25 miles and an oil change can I pop the N75 back on and crank my boost back up?

There's so much mixed info regarding bedding in an engine.

Just been out a did 20 miles of hard driving with the N75 off. Up to 30 miles in total now so I'll drop the oil tomorrow and put the 5W 40 platinum oil in.

Also picked up a new fuse for the overun pump and my rad fans have also burst into life. Happy days.

i'd stick to cheap mineral oil for a while longer yet mate, you'll ideally need to do another 2 or 3 changes before you get to 500miles.
