For those who like big ass jet planes, the UK's only flying Avro Vulcan is taking to the sky tomorrow, Saturday, at around 3.00pm weather permitting. If you have never seen one before, take this opportunity to witness several tons of jet fuel turned into noise.
Its abso-bloody-lutely incredible. Get out there and see it.

Looking at the flight path, it's flying between Coventry and Brum, which is almost above me. I will be on the lookout.

Every year, mid September. The RAF are leaving Leuchars in 2014 and moving to Lossie so fingers crossed they hold the airshow up there.

I'll post some pics once i get home from offshore.

Thank you for the positive feedback :icon_thumright:

I do hope it will fly again and you get to see it, but the only thing that keeps the Vulcan in the air is donations.. fine out here..

This very same airframe did the fly pass at my pass-out parade when I joined the RAF over 22 yrs ago. Was awesome then as it is now. Some of us had the opportunity to do a 6 month tour in rebuilding her when funds and manpower were limited. The RAF were asked if any personnel would like to volunteer in helping out in rebuilding her and voila............it happened. IMO such an iconic aircraft as the Vulcan should be shown to the world and pennies released from government to keep it flying instead of going towards homing illegal immigrants who don't belong here.

    Hi Sandra,

Yeah, the vids were really cool as well. The sound was awesome.

    Great pic though, good quality.

I will be looking for the next flight and hope it goes near me. I live near an RAF base so hopefully it will do a fly past some time soon.

Well, I didn't get much of it....
    Vulcan - YouTube

Tracey and myself went to the top of the multi story at Birmingham international, and found two other people had the same idea !
Not to say it came in low but we thought it was going to touch down. The Ibis was in the way of seeing the whole flypast but we saw it the other side of the hotel and it gave a wing wave before banking right then left as it went off into the distance.
Absolutely fantastic, even just seeing it fora few seconds.

ive seen it a few times fairford and it always the one to look forward to. the chap that used to organise our coach trips to fairford used to be a test pilot for the vulcan.

if you ant to get up close to another theres one a wellsbourne airfield just outside stratford on avon it also fully working and can fly but isnt allowed as not been issued its paperwork or something , but the do sometimes (more rarely these days) run it down the runway just enough to make it sort of lift, without breaking the rules, but ive only seen it once fire it engine up a few years ago.

It is a beautiful, and poignant, (when you consider what it was designed for) piece of machinery.

Funny this topic - as I was sat in a Vulcan yesterday (XM594) at the Newark air museum.

Absolutely stunning aircraft, looks so modern despite the design being over 60 years old.

It is my favorite plane so getting the chance to sit in one yesterday was amazing - could have spent hours in there, its shocking how small the cockpit is on these.

One thing that shocked me was the shear amount of electrics and hydraulics involved, there were electric boxes, fuse boxes, junction boxes all over the thing - especially inside the landing gear compartments.

I joined the Vulcan Club | Vulcan To The Sky club last night - would be such a shame to loose such an aircraft from the sky.

Saw XH558 at the Southport air show a few weeks ago too - that Vulcan Howl...my word (im in no way an aircraft spotter/anorak)

I remember seeing the Vulcan at the RAF Mildenhall ( American air base ) air shows, such an amazing plane and amazing sound, I remember the rumble it made on the run way taking off, and the rumble in your stomach,

No, that was the Fairly Delta 2 that was used to develop Concorde, although it does have Delta Wings just like the Avro Vulcan. Concordes Olympus engines were based on the Vulcan's.
