Something i found that might help all those people who`s DMF fail and Audi refuse to pay to replace for free. The following link gives official recall vehicle ID numbers from the VOSA. If your car`s ID is listed Audi will have to replace the DMF for free as it should have been recalled. It might be a good idea if the mods make this thread a sticky as it would save a lot of people money. The link also gives recall numbers for other thing that can go wrong that Audi should pay for to replace.
    Vehicle Details

If yours is on the list I would get the flywheel changed anyway. As it's free anyway and also results in a gearbox service (new oil) and a new clutch. Get one back on Audi for all of us who they've shafted

Do you have to change the gearbox oil when changing the DMF?

I'd assume so seing as the gearbox has to come off to get to it. So before taking it off they would have to empty it.

hi all , my vin number comes within the range being *5a119695 , obviously i can contact audi but are they likely to fob me off either saying its been done or doesn't need doing due to its age 2005 or 90000 miles, ive checked the history which was main dealer up to last year and can find no record of any recalls being done.
I just dont want to look a prat when i call cheers

My old A3 2.0TDI that my wife has now is on the list, had the car since new and never had a recall to get this work done.

Its always been serviced by Audi so would they have checked it on a service visit and not said anything?

My A3 2004 2.0Tdi, falls into these chassis number bracket's, it's done 112,000 miles and is starting to show symptoms of DMF wear, if I phone my local Audi dealer and inform them of the recall, will I get a new DMF fitted for free? or am I just being thick?.lol

Yes I phoned my local dealer who says that there is no recall for my car. My chassis number falls into the ones given though? Should I ring Audi Uk to see whats up? dont want to be faced with a DMF bill a few months/ years down the line...

Guess you should give Audi UK a ring to clarify on that matter, that's if you want to :)

Yep, can't have anything on my own lol! MOT time soon so hope it goes through OK, don't fancy a £1200 bill for a new downpipe.

So how do we tell if the DMF is on it's way without it being obvious? especially if it's a DSG car so you can't feel the clutch?

Sorry for bringing a thread back from the dead but did anyone here have any luck with Audi?

I contacted Audi in Ireland (VW Group) and they didn't have any recalls listed for my car even though the VIN number is listed in the VOSA recall. They thought that it might be a case that the recall had been done by Audi UK and may not appear on their system.
I rang Audi UK then and they couldn't see any recall on my car either. They gave me a build date of 24-May-2005 which would correspond to VOSA's details.

Does anyone know where VOSA get their info from? Is it direct from the manufacturers?

Affected vin numbers are listed in post #1. Yours is a 2007 which is later than the affected ones.

youra has probably been done then! I spoken to audi UK, my carwas affected and my DMF was replaced in 2006 on 7000 miles. its now on 64000 and going again which i said isnt that many miles to be spening £1500 everytime! Nothing they can do apparently and they wont replace it again because the parts warentee obviously ran out in 2008 and they only recall it for the part once:( New clutch and DMF to save for now then:(

    Just spoke to Audi CS who say that although my Chassis # falls in the recall list, and although it hasn't ever been checked / repaired;

They have no history of it needing a recall, and it would cost me labour to diagnose.
They also say they would only probably contribute to the cost if it is indeed part of the recall list (last main dealer service 2 years ago, 26k ago).

Are they pulling my pisser or what?

I would think that surely, if a cars VIN number falls into a recall list check category, then regardless it should be able to have a free check / repair completely - or at least provide proof to me that it has been done or is not affected?

Also, she mentioned due to age and mileage, that even if it is a recall they may only contribute towards the cost, not pay in full.

    I mean WTF.

They make a part unsafe and not fit for purpose. WTF does age and mileage have to do with it?
If they changed it 5 years ago when they should maybe it would be OK?
