Question for anyone who has bought from Vindis. I'm getting my S3 from Vindis Cambridge (who have been excellent so far) and have noticed some cars in their forecourt with horrible Vindis badges on the back. Before I call the dealer to ask them not to put it on my car I wondered if anyone had had the same thing and had the conversation with their dealer?

Yep. Bought from them and asked them to remove the sticker. Think most people do tbh

I can't believe they think it's acceptable to put such an ugly logo on the back of a premium vehicle.

I have always requested all dealer stickers be removed from my car, it's not a free advertising board

Before knowing anything to do with audi, I thought it was part of their audi range.

Yes I have purchased most of my A3s from Vindis and I originally just asked them not to put in their badge on the car and not to put a dealer sticker in the back window. No they just know not to do it on my new car. I also ask them not to use the number plate surrounds that have their name but to just use double-sided pads to attach the number plates. Fortunately their name printed on the number plates is in very small lettering.

The only thing that has their name on is the tax disc holder and that will not be necessary for much longer when the tax disc disappears.

The have quite a number of dealerships in this area. 6 x VW, 5 x Audi, 2 x Skoda, and 1 z Bentley plus a couple of VW Van Centres. The Audi dealerships are in Bedford, Cambridge, Huntingdon, Northampton and Peterborough and it is still a family run business.

For those who've never had the pleasure this is what you get stuck to the back of your car if you buy from Vindi's (unless you ask them not too). Usually placed on the left hand side of the tail gate, nice and prominent!

The company name comes from Frank Vindis, a Czech former Spitfire pilot. Vindis is a family business which started in 1960, when Frank and Esme Vindis purchased their first garage in Sawston just outside Cambridge. In 1969 Frank's son, Gary, took over the company and was later joined by his younger brother Nigel in the early 1970s. Together they worked to create the well known and highly respected Vindis Group and, with customer service being second to none, the Vindis family business has gone from strength to strength.

In your opinion. If you spend any time on A5OC they've got quite a different view to you, but then they aren't buddied up with the owners.

From my 2nd ever car onwards I have always stated at time of purchase/order regardless of dealership/brand:

    No dealership stickers on windows
Absolutely No dealership decals / stencil / lettering on bodywork.
Number plate & tax disc ok.

Never had a problem with that request.

For my first car I didn't know any better but learned this after trying to remove a browned & blistered garage sticker from a rear window without the heated rear window elements coming with it.

A "family run business" is so irrelevant and certainly doesn't make them any better. I've dealt with all of the local dealerships in my area which are also owned by a (different) "family run business" and most of the staff, including the directors who I've met, are (insert word which rhymes with grunts). On the contrary, I think I'd rather deal with a larger business as then, at least, I have various people who I can speak to if an issue arises, rather than a few related stuck up ar5ewipe directors who have their 'favourite staff' who can do no wrong and simply don't give a monkeys.

Actually what I posted was from their literature rather that it being my opinion mainly to show where the name came from and I resent your implication that I am 'buddied' up to them.

I have always dealt with the Huntingdon Audi dealership and they have always been fine as far as I'm concerned. I never personally had any problems at all with them. Seven of my eight A3s have been purchased from them. I have been to other dealers for a price for my A3s, some good and some not so good, but Huntingdon have always beaten any other offer I've been given.

My wife once had a small problem when she booked her A1 in for service and asked for a loan car. She wanted to insure the car on her own insurance (rather than have the normal £1000 excess) so they gave her the details of the car they would loan. When she took her car in a few days later for it's service they told her if would be a different car. She was not best pleased and rang me to ask what I thought. I said I would pick her up and to forget about the loan can.

Shortly after we got home we had a phone call from the Service Manager apologising for the problem and asking what they could do to make amends. She told him my A3 was due for service in a couple of weeks and some money off the cost of the service would be appreciated. He said they would do the service free of charge which they did.

Oh I see, it's written in their brochure, next time it might be useful to state the source otherwise it just sounds like 'Dave's propaganda'.

I'll be straight with you Dave, I didn't think you're the type to be fragile enough to resent my implication; I can recall numerous times where you've stated how wonderful you believe the service at Vindi's is (usually in threads where I'm berating the substandard service of the average Audi franchise dealer) and how you've bought this many A3's from them yada yada etc etc.

You know the escalation route if you have any issues so feel free to use them.

All I do is say what level of service I personally had from them as dealers. If others have had problem I've have no problem with them saying so. As I also said I have been to other dealers recently in my quest to drive different models in the 8V range. Two dealers stand out as also giving excellent service to me, Tamworth Audi and Kings Lynn Audi. Others have not been so good, one even giving totally the wrong demonstrator.

One chap on A5OC has just rejected a brand new RS5 from Vindi's (albeit it Northampton) as they damaged his car whist in for warranty work and then tried to patch it up (badly) without telling him! It's not been pretty; a sign that when a family business stretches it's legs and grows it can lose that sense of control that it had when it was locally based. Shame as obviously you'd found them to be good.

Funnily enough, on the wrong demonstrator point you raise, I've been struggling to find an 'appropriate' demonstrator for my change from S3 to S5. I could get a car, but then you look down the barrel of £7k of options to spec it up and you can't try any of them before you buy as most dealer cars are poverty spec! Leaps of faith required, but thankfully I found a very kind forum member on A5OC who was prepared to let me fiddle with his loaded S5 for a morning to determine what options I actually liked / wanted from the big list.

I'm always really pleased if anyone gets good service from any dealership to be honest, it's quite a rare treat these days and I guess my aspiration would be to ultimately look to get objective data into a centrally managed database (in the long term) that charted UK Audi dealers performance based on a number of key performance indicators so that the community could access this and vote with their feet. People's experiences seem to vary wildly from person to person so it would be critical to get the questions 100% right, but given the forum readership it could prove quite useful information for Audi UK if we could ensure the data was robust.

That sounds like an excellent idea. The problem is that so many people are only interested in the amount of discount they can get rather than the overall service from a dealer. A database of the service level available could be very useful.

My own experience, purely from the Sales side with other Vindis VW dealers has not always good. The Vindis VW in Cambridge were excellent but Bedford was not so good. My experience with Bedford Audi again has not been so good as with Huntingdon Audi.

Personally I think so much seems to depend on the individual Brand Manager at each individual dealer.

I'm sure they are overly happy with your money though. Even if the free advertising is gone.

Btw, they should still have the vindis logos on the number plates.

Any dealer that sticks graffiti on my car without asking would soon become an ex dealer.
Are Vindis unique in such naffness?
Personal/Dealer adornments on Audis is totally unwarranted and out of character IMHO.

One of the attractions of Audi is the restrained look (well some exceptions!) I much prefer the anonymous look apart from tax disc and black surround to number plate. I also like the default Euro Plate rather than the old fashioned version.

Yeah, not so bothered about that, as it's pretty much unreadable from any distance, but the vindis badge on the back of the car, next to the S3 badge, just ugly

Bet the owner adorns his car with V I NDS too and has an inflated ego ;-) I would avoid such people at all costs by choice but if deal is good maybe..

All my eight A3s have come from Vindis. The first time I just asked them to remove the 'Vindis' badge and it took the salesman 2 seconds. Now they know not to put one on my car in the first place, not to put a dealer sticker in the back windows and not to use number plate surrounds with their dealer name on.

Their name does appears in very small (3mm) lettering together with their postcode on the number plate as this is required by law. It is also on the tax disc holder but even that will not be necessary soon.

It is all very well dealers getting used to individual customers preferences BUT that does not excuse 'automatic' unwarranted and some would say tacky adornments. Not a dealer I think I would like, especially as it appears to come from Mr V. Apologies if I am wrong but totally unprofessional IMHO
