Very noisy A3 - help please

hello everyone, this is my first post tks

I recently bought my first audi , it is a A3 1.6 SE, 06 Reg, and with 16k on the clock.

underpowered ,but all seem fine for an A-B car, apart from the noise.

it is really noisy on the motorway, seems the noise most come from tyres. I have to raise voice talking while driving over 40mph.

car bought from audi main dealer, approved vehicle.

tyres are michilin pilot primary got 3-4mm threads left. I know they are crap

any of you experiencing this and any suggestions?

Are they standard wheels?

As soon as i changed my wheels to 19's it got louder but wasnt that loud in all honesty..

That's odd, when I close the windows I can easily talk without raising my voice, while doing 70mph ;-) on the motorway.

maybe they forgot to sound deanden it - test drive another one and see if there's a difference.

hi thanks for you replies,

it is stock 16in wheels, I can hear the noise from 15- 20mph, I mean the noise is loud enough to bring my attention.

the noise seems come into the cabin by suspension, with the speed going up then through the doors.

let me put it into prospective by compare the A3 with other car I drove before.

corsa 58 reg < Ka 57reg < Astra 08 <= Fiesta 09 < = A3 06 <= polo 08 < mondeo 53 < < golf 09

you can see the A3 it a lot more noisy than golf , which is odd.


I have bought a can of sound damping spray for the wheel well. hope it will help a bit.
