Vcds will it locate/program a radio code?

A friending mine has a VW passat which has a standard sat nav fitted recently the battery went flat and now it's asking for a radio code, he's looked in his manuals etc and it's not there,

Can it be found using vcds?

TBH it should remember his vin which begs question why's it asking for a code, what year is the passat?
