Could someone please tell me if this is all I need...(along with a laptop!!) to get vagcom up and running?

That will work with the older version of vagcom which doesnt do anywhere near asmuch as the newer version (802). If you car is CAN based you will have to buy the new official cable. Have a read of www.ross-tech.com

I'd buy the real thing from Ross Tech, some of the cheap leads can cause problems. Plus you'll also get support from the team behind the software.
