i can't access any engine data i've got very little access to anything.

i'm also trying to add the locking beep to the car. tried adding 1024 made no difference. i've added anti-hijacking which worked fine.

this is the list i got on the C/L controller

So how are you trying to access a module?

open VCDS (latest)

select control module

click 01-Engine

then says no responce from controller. with the engine on and off

this is all what it will access with a full auto scan

Its skipping it by the looks of it. The only other way to know if its fault with your car or computer would be to try another laptop/computer.

Urm it shows in the list to be scanned, does it actually try & connect to module 01 & then come out with no results?

will open.

trys to connect

comes up with no responce from controller. which is says for most of the others modules aswell.

tried a 1997 A4 same thing.

will try a 2000 seat ibiza today see if i can talk to that

Ok remove the software & drivers, then go into windows explorer & c drive & delete any vcds, ross-tech, ross-tech, vagcom folders that should be located in root of the drive, also check in program files, program data, program files (64) depending on OS installed some folders may not be present.

Then restart machine, reinstall vcds from RT download site taking note of which drivers are installed if ur system is 32 or 64 bit, test again directly into the module 01 or select 8L from the autoscan drop down box.

I've been reading the replies. You could have an issue in the car. The engine controller may not be talking on the diagnostic bus. After you try what Nigel has suggested, I suggest that you try another car and see if there is something dodgy about the interface. I'm not saying their is - but we need to rule it out. Once we know the install and wire are working properly, then we can begin to figure out what in the car is Fubar and keeping the Engine ECU from talking to the tool. You see, what I see in the list is a bunch of modules not talking .... Some may not be installed but still... looks like a KLine is hung. But we will go down that road once we know that the tool is all working properly.

Thanks for getting involved Bruce, appreciated as always :)

unistalled now

which should download from RT

HEX+CAN or HEX-USB

on lead says:
VCDS HEX-USB+CAN
HC598967

the engine will talk to my Autel hand held diagnostic

installed again.

tried to gain access to the engine on a 02 polo and a 05 passat neither would respond from the controller

not sure whats not working. don't have any problem with the lead/laptop at work
