With the MED17 ECU being a new architecture our code developer has been very busy behind the scenes studying the strategies & control algorithms of this ECU family. Together with extensive engine calibration testing & data logging completed on both the road & the dyno, he has achieved nothing short of excellent results. This new family of ECUs will be sure to test the skills of our competitors, particularly if trying to achieve the higher outputs as found with our Stage 2 code. Since the whole thermodynamic cycle is modeled within the code, an advanced knowledge of thermodynamics is required to correctly calibrate the associated models & constants. Multiple vehicles have been tested during the development phase, with several different rolling roads used from Dynomet, Maha, & Dynapack to verify our gains. We have averaged the peak recorded figures for all the power verification runs made, rather than just take our best peak figures for the highest run so as to indicate a realistic & repeatable improvement in gains. Expect delivery to feel as smooth as silk, with strong linear torque delivery these engines just want to keep pulling right up to the limiter. In fact our code developer jokes "VAG engineers have finally invented the real replacement for displacement.. the TSI engine" Our MED17 Stage 1 & 2 remaps are both suited to vehicles with stock hardware, although small engine modifications can be catered for with Stage 2. However since even things like air filter resistance are modeled in the ECU code, it is advisable for data logging checks to always be made when any future engine performance modifications are carried out, & code updates applied if required. For those planning more serious HW upgrades we will be offering our Stage 3 code to accommodate, & we expect the release to be no later than March 09. In the case of our MED17 Stage 1 code, this is a really light tune developed for the economy conscious looking for a more mild increase in performance & drivability, & whilst the gains are modest the remap still injects a new spark of life with the added benefit of maximum economy and durability. Our MED17 Stage 2 code is aimed at those wishing to achieve the very best yet safe gains from their vehicle, & we will spend longer with the vehicle data logging & fine tuning to achieve this. You can be assured of blistering performance, with the above mentioned exceptionally smooth & linear delivery. All our MED17 tuning keeps the hardware well within component tolerances, & we do not exceed the turbo specifications as they are set by the manufacturer. Neither do we raise the backpressure & shaft over spin limiters, & these are kept at stock settings with both our Stage 1 & Stage 2 code. Also worth noting with our Stage 2 code, is the fact that under wide open throttle our EGT levels are lower than found with the stock code due to our fuelling strategies, & this offers better component protection during WOT cycles which is certainly a consideration for the more aggressive driver or those considering track use. We required new equipment to flash these ECUs via the diagnostic port, & again our developer has tested all the available market options before we made our final choice of tool based upon reliability, stability & recovery.
