Being stuck in traffic jams is never good for your state of mind, and last night whilst trying to get out of Reading town centre I'm feeling mithered and generally arsed off, and the local VW dealers appears in front of me.

I sat there thinking of all the bulb changing I'd done in the last few weeks and thought to finish it off, maybe I should get a set of the silvered front indicator bulbs..... I'd mistakenly tried to order some from BMW in November (the PY24W SV model that looks identical until you tip it upside down and see the pin configuration is different). So after seeing in the LED thread that Paullie / EddyD had managed to identify the right bulbs it was time to check out whether they were any good.

    PART NUMBER: WN 107 331 02 (PSY24W SV - 38J1 Car Bulb @ £19.14 + VAT each)

10 minutes later I was nearly £45 lighter in the pocket, and even the dealer admitted he couldn't believe how outrageously expensive the bulbs were and he was worried how they were going to justify that to people who just wanted to pay a couple of quid per bulb, not £23 each.

In case you think I'm making it up, here's the evidence (sorry, iPhone pics at night are not the best):

And to finish with another rant (after being fleeced proper good) the chump who invented the design for the bulb access point and mounting mechanism within the front light light cluster, you're an absolute monkey spanker; piss poor design!

I'll do some before and after shots once the car is clean.

On a better note, had an exceptionally good value LED interior light pack turn up from EM Tuning which cost half the price of the two bulbs above for all overhead light + glove box & boot light. Very nice kit, does what it says on the tin, and makes the car look much fresher inside. Nice one T8ups and co. We like!

Photos of bulb heaven to follow.

Love all these little touches. I remember back on March 1st 2008 when I picked my car up from the garage. Drove the 15-18 miles home and changed all the indicator bulbs and fitted the FBMFSW with less than 20 miles on the clock!

Always a good feeling with the yellow/egg yolk look gone! Good work Warren.

Cheers N8, agreed! A few years back I was always 100% in the camp if it didn't make it go faster / handle better then no money got spent on it! You lot are slowly changing my head space to respect the finishing touches!

Thankfully the silvertec bulbs in the rear clusters are only a tenner and were donor parts from the 8P2. I gave my silver side repeaters bulbs to BBlackburn when we met up to do some VCDS coding on his car. Not sure the mirror ones are worth doing.

<20 miles!!!... beats my 76 for spacers and forge DV pipe! That's the spirit!

Thats a stupid price for 2 bulbs.
Seeing prices like that I'm happy to have a old car. :)

I bought some silvertec bulbs for mine couple of months ago and made a nice difference to the front end. well worth it.

Same as the LEDs and another thumbs up for T8ups. makes a huge difference to the interior lighting and well worth.

Agreed 100%, I feel a bit of a tit for paying it if I'm honest, but I want the car to look mint when she's done. The guy at VW said it makes fitting the wiring loom in cars quicker and easier having no fat loom ends to fit, and brings the supply of bulbs back in house (how can halfords supply a bulb with one pin config for BMW, and another for VW at these prices?). These prices are so high they almost need 'looking into' as it's getting to the point of extortion.

Looks wise I just need lowering, 19's, RS grille and buckets which will have to come as the result of any future annual bonus, but must get done in time. Maybe quad rear pipes may feature too.

Good call, but the OEM S3 feels about as quick as an S-Line should. I'm just removing the asthmatic wheezing imposed by the EU and making the car feel like it has some soul!

Too many bit just sat about waiting!

If you can then it's worth doing. Subtle difference, but worth doing if you have OCD about the yokes (I hate them!)

Yup, Trups from EM Tuning on here is your man.

Couple of observations about the LED's

    1) They're incredibly bright
    2) The ones I ordered for the footwells have been used in glovebox and boot as they produced a purple-ish cast

To get round this I've angled the bulbs away at a 45 degree angle towards the roof in the centre overhead light, and at 90 degrees in the vanity mirror lights (towards the reflector shield). They are now far more subtle (admittedly with a slightly less optimal dispersal of light across the whole unit), but they hurt your eyes less in the pitch black of night!

I've put Philips Crystal vision W5W bulbs in the footwell lights and adjusted them to 30% and they look white enough.

With interior LED's do you not lose the gradual dimming when they turn off and on when locked and unlocked?

It's certainly less prominent, but there is still a soft start / close down so its not on/off.

They are very very bright and I like that.
possibly to bright if you turned them at night while driver, but I don't. so its ok. :)

The vanity mirrors seem to be the brightest or at least the ones that blinds you the most.
They still so much better than the old bulbs that was in there.

    N8, This is your guy.
    View Profile: t8ups - Audi-Sport.net

I thought they would just blink and turn off but they do dim and I don't think its that different.
Your dimming might be different to mine though, being a newer car than mine.

Mine still keeps the 'cinema' dimming of all the internal lights.......very stylish too.

Might need someones assistance reference DRL's. Sorry to hijack the post. I want to fit better DRL bulbs but as Im not that close to anyone to code the car, LED's are out for just now. What are the best white light bulbs for my car.....8P2 S3......without breaking the bank. Tried afew off Flea Bay but they were ****/wrong ones.

    Mine haven't changed.

You can still adjust the brightness through the DIS if you car can let you do it :)

    Warren,

the roof ones are dimmer than what i usually supply and what the other members go for, i do have a bulb with 2 led's in there if you wanted to swap them over?.

The purple-ish cast/dots is been caused but the lamp holder its self, as the leds touch the plastic and its got a type of grain to it they scatter colour if that makes sense. it only happens on the footwells as its a differant type of holder compared to your boot or glove box, thats why you dont really see the purple cast in the boot or glove. try them with the other lamp and you will see what i mean :salute:

Hi Trups, yes in the glovebox and boot they look perfect. I was going to see if I could switch the whole light unit from these locations with the ones in the boot but they are a different size.

Question for you. The over head festoon bulbs, how expensive would it be to have a custom one made with 2 LED's on one side of the board, and 1 on the other? To get the subtle ambient light I want I have to mount bulb with light pointing sideways, but then this only lights half of the light unit up. If the bulb had LED on both side it would resolve my personal dilemma. If its possible I'm happy to pay for 2 of these. Many thanks and the car looks SO much nicer inside thanks mate!

the boot and glove will fit in the footwell, i think you will have a problem fitting the footwells in the glove and boot tho, only other way to get around it is by getting some new units from audi.

i will have a look through my boxes and see if i can make you something like this, if i cant i will ask the factory, i can see it been a big issue as it seems fairly simple as to what you are asking to do.

    Thanks

Trups, footwell bulbs nestled in glovebox and boot with no issue, all good.

Thanks so much for looking into the festoons.

No, bright white light, and your bulbs offer so much better lighting in boot and glovebox than OEM bulbs, brilliant.

Happy New Year, Warren! Hope you and your lady had a lovely festive season! I have to say that your silver indicator bulbs and LED interior bulbs from T8ups look awesome!! I will be investing in a full set from the man himself in the very near future. I managed to buy a pair of PSY24WSV bulbs this morning from Hayselden VW in Doncaster for £36 delivered, which I didn't think as too bad, considering what some VW dealers are selling them for. If anyone is looking to purchase some, it might be worth emailing Hayselden VW as they might mach the same price I was able to buy mine for (£18 each including postage).

Contact : Hayselden (Doncaster) Ltd : Volkswagen UK

Loving everything you've done so far Warren, keep up the good work! xx
