VAG Codes for Dummies

    Hi All - I hope someone can explain this to me in simplified English. I would love to know if any of these issues could be resolved on the cheap, without bringing the car to the dealer and spending a boatload. Got a small neighborhood mechanic to take a look and he read the following codes:

    17511-P1103 B1S1 - I googled this, and came up with a sensor heating circuit - but what does that mean and how can I fix that?

    17544-P1136 B1 - this came up as a Fuel Trim issue... again, what does that mean in layman's terms and is there an easy fix?

    16891-P0507 - Idle Air Control issue..... any easy fixes?

    16395-P0011 A. B1 - Something about a Camshaft A....

    Another issue which came up recently - the Traction Control light comes on and stays on at times. Sometimes it's nothing but the light, and sometimes I can feel the wheels slipping - various road conditions - wet, dry, uphill, downhill, flat... If the light is on and I hit the brakes, I sometimes feel a strong vibration under my feet.

    So, with this in mind, should I just bite the bullet and take it in or is there something I can do to remedy any of these issues? I don't mind getting dirty, I just don't know much about it yet, and haven't really worked on engines myself. Willing to give it a try though!

    Possible Solutions
    Check Oxygen Sensor Heating for Oxygen Sensor before Catalytic Converter

    Im guess damaged cable or sensor needs replacing.

    17544/P1136/004406 - Fuel Trim: Bank 1 (Add): System too Lean

    Possible Solutions
    Check Mass Air Flow (MAF) Sensor
    Check Fuel Pressure Regulator
    Check Fuel Pump
    Check Intake/Exhaust System for Leaks
    Check Secondary Air Injection for Leaks
    Check Vacuum Lines for Leaks
    Special Notes
    Fuel Trim Info
    When this fault is stored and external vacuum leaks are not found, less obvious problems may be present:
    Check Evaporative Emission (EVAP) Canister Purge Regulator Valve (N80)
    Check Brake Booster and Hoses
    Check Electric Vacuum Pump ( If Applicable )
    Check Crankcase Ventilation System for faulty components. When the PCV or Crankcase Ventilation System is faulty, vacuum is typically present under the oil cap and misfire faults are common.

    16891/P0507/001287 - Idle Control System RPM: Higher than Expected.

    Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) active
    Possible Causes
    Throttle Valve Control Module (J338) dirty/faulty
    Wiring/Connector(s) from/to Throttle Valve Control Module (J338)
    Vacuum Leak
    Possible Solutions
    Check Throttle Valve Control Module (J338)
    Check Wiring/Connector(s) from/to Throttle Valve Control Module (J338)
    Check Intake System for Leaks

    16395/P0011/000017 - Bank 1: Camshaft A (Intake): Retard Setpoint not Reached (Over-Advanced)

    Possible Symptoms
    Power Loss
    Possible Causes
    Camshaft Adjustment Valve 1 (N205) faulty
    Fuel Pump Relay (J17) faulty
    Mechanical Timing not correct, including Chain and/or Belt timing.
    Possible Solutions
    Check Camshaft Adjustment Valve 1 (N205)
    Check Fuel Pump Relay (J17)
    Check Mechanical Timing

    Sounds like some air leaks and possibly the cam belt is a tooth off, has it been recently been changed?
