Hello, anyone come across this? 2004 3.2 V6 when I turn the engine off the cooling fans continue to go, I don't mean that they stay on for a while then turn off, I mean they only turn off when they've drained the battery of every last amp of power.

    Thoughts please?

    Thanks

If it was my car I would check for a stuck relay as the contacts could be welded shut once you find the relay I would tap it firmly this may be enough to separate the contacts and then you could replace the relay as this would rule out the relay coil being supplied with 12 volts from the ecu failing this I would suspect the radiator temp sensor on the bottom hose on the radiator I would also check it with vcds.

Temperature guage is reading normally which I guess gets its reading from the sensor on the bottom hose. Any idea where the relay would be? Thank for the reply.

    No fault codes with VCDS

i am not sure tbh but I think the relay would be under the bonnet in the fuse box however your car has 2 coolant temp sensors one one the block and one on the rad I have seen a few post that the r32 golf has a fan module not sure if our cars share this part . I think fuse 54 is the fuse to remove under the bonnet to stop the fans meantime but don't drive like that I also would have thought if the module existed on our cars was faulty it would show codes .

It's the fan control module which has died. Our R32 had the same problem about a month ago and I tracked it down to the fan control module which sits underneath the battery on the passenger side.

I got one off eBay for £30.

Well since the battery is in the boot I'd hope its under the fuse box.
I'll have a look and report back.

I would disconnect battery first the fuse box is secured by Torx in the middle of the box when you lift it it disconnects loads of connections hope you find it I have googled with no luck.

Don't suppose you know the part number? One that I found Audi A3, TT, VW Bora, Golf, Lupo, Polo, Seat Radiator Fan Control/ Relay Module | eBay doesn't look like its for the later model.

    Thanks

Do you have vcds because when your coolant temp sensor fails fans run flat out found this from info from vw (http://sandbox.enjoybeing.net/veedub/vw_vr6_self_study.pdf) should be identical but I have also seen info that says the module is integrated to the fans I will have car on ramps soon so I will have a look.

I have a similar problem on my V6, but mine do turn off. Someone advised me a while back that its the air con rad fans that come integral to the air con rad. The fans on mine are on constant full whack if the a/c is on.

Looks like the module is part of the fan, which is only available as a modified kit from Audi, comes with the 2 fans and a new cowling. I'll update once I've done it.
