My car is using coolant a bit quick... having to top up every couple of weeks.

No signs of water and oil mixing.

Can it be anything else or is my head getting ready to give up??

    Thanks

Have you checked for leaks? After getting it warmed up, try parking the car overnight over newspaper. You should be able to see any leaky spots as blots on the paper the next morning.

Yeah, in particular check your radiator its pretty easy for it to develop a small leak/have a small hole

It's a really common problem for the seal on the cap of the expansion tank to leak. This only happens under pressure and often there are no obvious signs of leaking. Really cheap fix by simply replacing the cap.

Of course it might not be this but it is a very common problem on the Mk4 Golfs and therefore I would imaging your S3 may be prone to the same.

Waterpump is another place where coolant will leak out, but very hard to see, as it's where the cambelt is.
