took the car to get a slow puncture repaired and on removing the front left wheel they found that every spoke has one if not two cracks in!!
we checked the other front rim, same thing, the back ones are all good

i have rs6 rims in 235/19/35 front and 265/19/35 rear

im thinking these may be replicas and have cracked due to not being designed to handle high amounts of torque/power as i couldnt imagine this happening to genuine audi rims?

so has anyone got or know where there are a set for sale, i really only need two but will buy four if need be

looked in all the usual places, ebay, pistonheads etc dont want reps again only genuines

was due to drive to scotland tomorrow too, luckily i havent sold my old car as of yet so am taking that, not worth risking the spokes snapping whilst 300 miles from home!!

also im going to post a thread in the rs6 forum, see if they got anything over there

    thanks

I'm guessing you have an Audi S3 correct? There is no such thing as 'genuine' RS6 style rims in 19" for your car, they are all replica's for your fitment.

Do you have any pics of said damage? Sounds very dangerous and serious to have cracks on the spokes!

I'd be very suprised if you found genuine wheels for your car mate? Never heard of any in your fitment,Pretty sure they would need adapters, good luck though but wouldn't hold you're breath!

i was wondering about the fitment, im going away early in the morn with no internet at my nans house, so when im back il get some pics up of the damage for everyone to inspect, guys at garage said they never seen anything like it before, not all of the spokes cracking!!

but yes very very dangerous, im thanking my lucky stars as i dont know how long they been like it but ive given her some abuse at times, could of all gone horribly wrong!!

also im unsure of the pcd, 2000 reg s3, 19" rs6 reps with spacers and porsche cayenne big brake conversion, with the conversion would they have changed the hubs at all?

how can i check the pcd, rim off check hole centres with rule is all i can think of but is a bit inaccurate for my liking especially when it could be 100 110 or 112!!

It should be 5X100 for your S3, even with the big brakes, offset I'm guessing should be ET35. If you take the rim off, the PCD and offset should be stamped on the inside of one of the spokes, or on the face of the part where it joins onto the car hub.

    Damn cheap replicas!
I had a similar problem with the 18" A8 reps on my A4. Thought I had a slow puncture... took it to the garage for a new tyre... 2 or 3 small cracks in the wheel itself (not the spokes).
Giving a new meaning to 'Split-Rim' alloys.

I'm sure there are some good quality replicas out there, but most must be shocking quality if a couple of hard potholes can wreck them in a year.
    False economy in my opinion.

Looks like a damage repaired alloy, it would take latteral movement to crack the spoke like that I think?

Thats very disturbing to see..... do you know the history of the wheels ??? Would you say they still have the origional paint on them, did you buy them new ?? are there any kind of manufacturers identification on them... i'm wondering if they could have been fire damaged at some point and then refurbed..... lots of questions i know but having just read your other thread and what finally happend, it had the potentia to be fatal.. very disturbing indeed

dont know anything about them at all mate, only had the car about a month or so, pretty sure they was like it when i bought it though, took it to my local garage about a week or two after buying it to get a slow puncture done, turned out to be a flat spot on the inside edge of both front rims leaking air, they knocked these out and when refiting to car noticed the cracks

so obviously at some point the previous owner has mounted a kerb or something of the like to dent the rims, but when i took it to the bodyshop the guy pointed out that the car has been resprayed at some point as chipped off paint is revealing red paint underneath, so my thinking is its been in somesort of accident prior to me buying it and this is where the cracks have come from?

yes mate i am counting myself very lucky, i was considering talking to citizens advice to see if theres anything i could do but it was a private cash sale and we both signed a receipt to say sold as seen, so they would probably say it was my fault for not picking up on it, but still he knowingly sold a death trap, not right is it?

It's a bit sad really that you dont seem to be able to trust anyone selling a car these days! There are so many dodgy people out there that just dont care if the buyer of their death trap injures themself as long as they get their cash!

Like you say mate, it's not something you check when buying a car. I've never once checked for cracks on wheels and I doubt anyone else on here has either.

You should go and drop the broken wheels off to the bloke who sold you the car and leave them on his front door step with a note on them saying "Thanks! Merry Xmas"
