turning off my service light

    Does anyone know how this is done? ive heard a couple of diffrent ways like, holding the milometer reset button for so long with the ignition off and then turnin the key in the ignition for so long et etc etc, I was hoping someone could tell me the correct way to sort this?, thanks

    It tells you in your owners manual. According to the manual:

    1. switch on the ignition
    2. when you pull the button next to the speedo, the word SERVICE should appear in the display.
    3. Pull the button again holding it out till it says SERVICE IN ----

    (It will come out of reset mode if you dont pull it before 5 seconds)

    I think that will put you on fixed intervals though.

    that's correct Stu. VAGCOM will allow you to switch it back to flexible.

    I guess mine is on fixed rate, its sayig its now due and the odometer says 21,500 miles but its now turned 5 years old. Dont think I will be doing the timing belt yet...

    My DIS service due warning keeps coming up every 800 miles, i'm sure you can imagine how annoying this must be.

    How can I reset this so it indicates a service is due at a more realistic time than 800miles.

    I'm guessing it should be every 20,000?

    Would vagcom cure this?

    Yes VCDS can correct the service indicator however it should have been properly set by the servicing dealer.
