Its fine when you want to be a hooligan, but not when you want to make fast progress up a b road or whatever.

Given that both turbos will produce the same top end figure, i really cant see any justification to using one which will give you a higher boost threshold and make the car generally worse to drive.

I've been trying to find escos and sierra cosworth power plots to highlight the difference, but ye a T28 will feel far more lively.

If you consider that when you go "Balls out" with both turbos, there wont be much difference as your right up the revs and theres plenty exhaust gas to get the turbos moving.
Its the more normal driving it will hurt you. Needing an extra 1000rpm to get the engine to start producing meaningful torque will make it feel like a dog. The only reason the 1.8T is so tractable at the moment is because the turbo is tiny and starts getting to work at 2krpm. Sitting in 5th gear on the motorway at 2500rpm and ending up offboost just wont be any fun, and having to constantly downshift gets tiring really quickly.

T3 just denotes the bolt pattern of the turbo.
the original sierra cosworth wasn't some rocket ship with a massive turbo.
    just over 200bhp/270NM from a 2l
peak power at somewhere near 6k and peak torque at 3500 or 4500 depending on model.
thats no worse than the 1.8t in 180bhp form.

    a similar sized T03 Garrett from a YBB engine on a 1.8t chipped to 250bhp will perform a lot like a KO4 or possibly a KO4 hybrid

still I am with you on it not being a good choice, it is a 20+ year old turbo design without the massive technological improvements in vane design, 360 bearing, lubrication and cooling that turbo build in the 2000's have.

T25 or T28 pattern turbos are readily available second hand and will be more than enough for your needs and give you a common manifold bolt pattern to upgrade to much larger 28 or 30 frame Garrett turbos if you get greedy.

and yeah, Lee, you have had a whole weekend, this thing done yet?! [gets coat]

pulsar gti-r t28 has a 2 bold flange on the inlet and a 3 bolt on the outlet of the cold side. good for about 330bhp on a pulsar. i had a t28 with a bigger comp wheel on my pulsar and it made 315bhp at 1.1bar. got full boost about 3500 rpm if i remember right.

Surely if you've read the nearly 500 posts ;) you'd know that this is the second featured turbo upgrade and also featuring a new car.

To summarise not yet ha.. roll on 1000 posts :beerchug:

better be bloody good considering the wait!

I have just finally broken out the TIG welder and am embarking on the manifold, will update that when I have something to update!! (christmas next year probably!)

The MAF will end up close to the stock position but unfortunately the turbo would be touching the airbox if I kept it so that's got to be removed anyway.

    Notch the airbox? :D

Drizz: As for injectors, Lee is using a set of saab reds as commonly fitted to c20lets, they're good for ~300hp so should be pretty well matched.

If you want more you can plump for a set of VXR chappies, as they're rated quite a bit higher.

With increasing the diameter for the MAF and notching the box at the side it'll just end up with a big hole in it.

Anyway a performance filter adds about 20HP.. common knowledge ;)

Did your sensor drop right in??

Can you tell me where you got the housing from?

    What year/engine is your car?
AFAIK Revo doesn't do AEB/AJL files.

T3 just tells you the bolt pattern as jcb said.. all about the size & A/R etc.. I'd definitely have that one though!

No I didn't (lol sorry guys)..

It does need a bit of fettling to get it to fit and the sensor is mounted the wrong way too. I will be modifying mine to fit though.

Lets just say i bought that t3,what other than a new downpipe would be needed? I like the idea of getting a bigger turbo set up now. Its either that or just sell the car and buy an s4 anyway. You can pick up a used t28 for very little and not sure how much a manifold would cost but im sure you could buy a used t28 and a manifold for about the same money.

Drizz- I think it comes down to which configuration generally comes with a common turbo design. Eg. my T28 is very similar to many other T28s but in theory the A/R could vary massively so don't just go by the configuration (T28, T3 etc).

Not yet, its on ts way after having been hybridized

    Swap you for the T3?
    LOL

I ran one before on the Purple one Lee has, it's still going strong and puts out a nice drivable 250 BHP and 275lb torques.

Ok, the MAF housing needs A LOT of work to get the sensor to fit and will involve making a kind of hybrid!! Not such a good buy now :eiertritt:
