Sounds like something rattling, loose like tractor sort of noise.
It only happens on idle. When revved it goes away.
Ive looked under the hood and the sound is coming from alternaor fan belt thingy.
Whats on its way out??? Any ideas? alternator pulley was done 3 months ago

the alternator has a clutch pulley to allow it to turn freely when starting to reduce the load once its running the pulley is engaged so the alternator spins up

not sure how easy it is to change though

It could also be the air con pulley rattling if the buffers in the pulley are worn to check that simply hit the econ button on the climate while you have the window wound down and it will get louder if it is that

the clutch pulley will cost something around £30. You need a special tool to remove the pulley. Check out youtube alternator clutch replacement for a demo on how to.

Switch the Econ button on & off with bonnet open. If it has an effect on the rattle the AC compressor pulley is goosed.
