Well took her to norwich audi for the works haldex, brake fluid and everrything else. Asked them to look into the headlights as they seem to look at the floor, headlamp washer on drivers side doesnt pop up and the coolant indicater on the dis beeps at me when started from cold. well the headlamp washer needs replacing which they would do for £200 the headlights are adjusted and are much better.
the coolant problem says " Fault stored in memory with coolant sensor and thermostat" =£338.
they also found "slight gearbox oil leak from propshaft flange seal" = £215
also "air con compressor clutch noisey" =£425
and i also need new rear pads and discs in the next 2k =£250
i declined them doing it for now as i need to find out if theese are covered on my warranty i got when i bought the car. I left the garage with a very shiny clean car but a big hole in my wallet to the cost of £563.18 /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cry.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cry.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cry.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cry.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cry.gif

I've got the coolant sensor problem, seems to be a common one.
I just assumed it would be covered by my warranty? Is that possibly not the case?

i hope so. i dont have audi warranty anymore as its a european import and it had its 3rd birthday on saturday. ive heard it being a cracked coolant temp sensor which is just over £20 from audi and a 5 minute job to change. might just get one and have a go. if you still have manufacturer warranty then i believe it is covered..

Tony, reading through those problems above, if they're not covered by warrenty and your not capable of doing them yourself. I'd say go and find a local VAG specialist as from the list above, none of them are really technical and Audi dealer specific. You'll save yourself a fortune.

Also the leaking prop seal, I'd say get underneath and have a look for yourself.

At 50k my mates S3 was diagnosed by an Audi dealer as having a leak on the rear diff. I got underneath it and had a look and there was some minimal misting around one of the seals, and I mean minimal, they wanted to charge him £250 to put right. Its looks very similar to when you spill some oil on your engine and leave it, like a dampness, not oily wet.
Its on 65k now and it hasnt changed one bit. No leak just the dealer wanting to clean out his pockets.

cheers r88per, if they are not covered i wont be taking it to audi thats for sure cos if i had £1200 to throw at i believe there is a chip with my name on it! the brakes are not a problem as ive done plenty of brake related work before, the rest will have to do some research. anyone know whether the piston winds in or just pushes back in on the rears?? cheers in advance

Hmm, not sure with the rear pistons. I'd suspect with it being VAG that they'd wind in. If you havnt got the tool Halfords are selling of the Sykes Pickavant range at the moment, worth a look.

At least they arn't part of the rear hub though with an integral wheel bearing.

    Cant really tell here

    Oouch!
My A4Q has had a leaking prop seal for the last 50k miles. The specialist I use just said they'd keep an eye on it but it hasn't got any worse in 50k miles. It's not like it even leaves an oily patch on the drive.
