yeap I think that is pretty achievable...

My friends TT can keep up with me until I hit 4th gear... both cars standard. So if your TT is remapped sure it will more than keep up with a standard S3. Until a bend comes in place and the extra traction from haldex quattro comes into play... :)

On this occasion my knowledge of the roads made up for the lack of quattro with me being much later on the brakes, just a bit of fun :)

Based on previous ownersip of a 200ps Golf GTi , an S3 would see off the 200ps 20T car no problem.

HOWEVER, a remapped 200ps 20T is a bit of a weapon and a very close match for a std S3.

    HOWEVER, remap an S3............another story..

All true... but in case of TT 2.0T there is the little catch of the weight... So it is evenly matched until 4th gear. (Depending how you trash the S3 of course...because 3rd gear can make a difference already)

Nice motors either of them... driven both and there is one thing I like on the TT is the exhaust sound and the interior is sportier...

I didnt really like the new TT when it first came out, i dont know why, but now i really do. I have started buying Performance Car magazine (i would strongly suggest that everyone else did too, its a great read if you like real world performance cars) and this month has the TT-S in it, looks very very nice indeed.

The exhaust note has really impressed me and has me in the habit of driving around with the window down its that good, also being a 'fast' FWD when the traction inevitably cuts in to soften wheel spin the exhaust pops & barks - it's great fun. On a motorway run though no louder than the S3.

I'm very pleasantly surprised at how much I am enjoying this car, standard or mapped they are very under-rated IMO.

Whats the deal with the exhaust note? why has the TT got a different/better note?

The TTS is very highly specced but I'd still say its about £3K overpriced.

Looking underneath the car it has one less silencer than the S3 but no doubt Audi would claim it has been "tuned for aural pleasure" as they like to describe it as a 'sports car' it also doesn't have the valve thats on the S3's exhaust tips but it really is a much better sound, I was always very happy with the bark emmitted from the S3 but since having the TT have realised Audi could have done much better.

What's missing from the TT is that lovely induction roar present on the S3, its there but not as noticeable.

S3/TT both sound pretty good its just the TT does have an edge, I'll take you for a spin on the dyno day and you can see what you think.

TBH i think Audi made the S3 a bit half hearted , i think they know they can make a better car.

They made the exterior/exhaust note a bit soft IMHO , most ( not all ) S3 owners would like a bit more agressive styling and a raspy exhaust note.

Look at the 2.0 TT and the TT-S apart from the extra power and quattro it's vertually the same car! ie they did a very good job in the first place!

A colleague at work is also a bit of a car nut so between us we share the various magazines and subscriptions.

    Each month I have..

    Audi Driver
    Performance Tuner

Weekly ...Auto express - toilet paper really but good for pricing guides/stats etc

    He gets..

    Evo
    Performance Car

We then tend to buy the odd off the shelf and share these also.

Many would argue you don't need to buy a mag in these days of internet etc but I never take my lap top in the toilet with me so what would I read ?!? LOL :)

Call me tight or a scrooge or whatever...but I do the same!!
I have a 9-5 job working in different towns during the week with 1hour for lunch. After wolfing my lunch down in 15 mins, Im often left doing bugger all for 45mins. Shopping doesnt appeal to me so I find myself stood in WH Smith magazine section reading bits and pieces of various magazines (cars, games consoles, gadgets etc..) If times up and I havent finished reading a particular article, I return for afternoon work and simply return to another WH Smith on my lunch the following day. And this routine can keep going in a cycle cos new magazines published each month.
And the staff dont even get chance to catch onto what Im doing cos I'll be at a different WH Smith the next day (all due to where Im needed at work)

PS As Phantom said...if theres anything I REALLY want to read over again, I'll happily part with the cash:blush:

I'd go along with that definitely. The S3 to me looks and feels like it's floating half way between an S-Line and a 'proper' full blooded RS car but not quite the real deal. This would be fine IF there was an RS3 but they never bothered and threrefore should have put a LOT more effort into the S3.
To balance the range they should have scrapped the S-Line. Backed off the styling a little and just made it the 'sport'. Made the current S-Line 2.0T Quattro a little hotter (like the Leon Cupra), turned up the styling a little bit and badged it as the S3...Then gone all out and beat the **** out of the 8P format and made a proper RS3.

Other model ranges seem much better balanced with far less over-lap. Take the A5 for example.... Basic models, sport models with a little more styling, bigger wheels etc (NO S-LINE), then the S5 which is distinguishable as something a bit different but you can guarentee the RS5 will look a monster. Nice and simple.

TT-S is a new version of the TT with a 270bhp engine and haldex quattro drive system.

    A beast!!!

Concerning the S3 I think is right, if you check the S models they never stand out of the range, so S3 comes in line with that. I would not want it any other way.
Also a small 3door hatchback with 350bhp is not profitable to make or sell and would compete with models up in the range.

The S3 is a good entry level car for performance orientated buyers who need to have a fast but yet classy and discreet car for everyday driving, a car one doesn't feel ashamed of driving, and that need one in 3door hatchback form.

We agree Pedro , but as it's the last year-ish for the 8P they could of made it a touch more " gutsy " in looks and performance.

The TT-RS will be out next year!

We'll be lucky to get a NEW S3 by 2014 thats 8 years!

I know what you mean... at the time of launch 265bhp were quite good on our S3... But now... it does not have that edge anymore.... I would be quite happy to pay an extra £5k and get more performance, less weight and some more special features...

S3, today should be 200Kg lighter, factory bhp should be 300, should have Brembo brakes, adjustable suspension, 2 or 3 user selectable ECU maps, a more rear bias Haldex, fuel tank with an extra 10 liters capacity, 245 rear tires and 225 front tires.... 18 inch is OK... That would be my ideal S3.

I agree Pedro, what you're describing is what the RS3 should be. The S3 is fine as it is but it's not an 'S' car range topper compared to other Audi models.
The RS3 should have tastefully flared arches, slightly re-sculptured bonnet, get the exhausts central within the back bumper or one either side, 300bhp, lighter, uprated components etc.
