To poly or not to poly? That is the question.

    I'm wondering if its worth replacing the increasingly more knackered bushes on my 2000 a3 tdi with some polybushes. Would it be worth doing and if so which ones are best to replace to give better handling and control?

    Also is it a hard job to do? Would I be best taking it to the local garage and getting them to do it or could I manage it with a mates help?

    Yes its worth doing, esp as the car is 13 years old, every bush is different so have a crack at doing one?

    Any recommendations as what to do first? Its currently on standard suspension.

    Yep. Get them all poly'd. Makes driving the car more satisfying and is about the same cost as a tank of fuel or two if you DIY.

    I've found all the bushes come to about 250. Bit more than the price of 2 tanks of fuel, I will have to do them a couple at a time and spread the cost.

    I recommend you save up and do everything at once, save up to buy the whole lot, pay to have them all fitted at once, then do the 4 wheel alignment once, job done!

    and there`s me thinking of saying stick with std bushes if its a every day runner. Don`t think i`ll go down the polly route when I need to do mine but I havn`t driven one with polly bushes to compare.

    Or do front then back. Or save harder and get 034 arms that have harder bushes. But the the balljoints are still going to be shot.

    Just to mention it is a pretty old car, with 190,000 miles on the clock. Ideally I don't wanna spend a lot on it, just something to improve the drivability of it. Its rather lax in the corners and quiet boat like.

    I can definitely recommend doing them all.
    At that mileage it will feel like a new car again.

    Right I better get saving then. Anyone know where to get polybushes cheap or with a little discount? (I'm tight as a ducks a**e)

    If you want to retain the comfort, then replacing with OEM bushes is fine, but I'm aiming to make my S3 handle better, and doing it for longivity, then poly is the better option in my opinion.

    Replacing the bushes is half the problem, you have all the ball joints that are going to be old still

    19`s ruin the comfort imo I love the look but the roads are getting that bad Im falling out with the drive. Seem to be weeving all the time to dodge al the frelling pot holes :(

    Been there and done that FM! And my 19" rims don't work with my current suspension setup, which is why I have put them up for sale.

    all at once in my opinion still need to do top mounts, rear trailing & rear tie bars on mine.

    Recommend doing the drops links to as the joints do suffer from wear & age.
