To decat or not decat?

I have an Audi A6 1.8T 1999 model, it requires a new exhaust, what would be the repercussions of decat-ing it at the same time?

Does the turbo require the back pressure of the cat, so it doesn't self destruct within 10 miles!

im in the same boat, im worried that i might end up with a horrible rasp decat noise, so im tempted by going down the sports cat route

I fitted a de-cat to my A4 1.8T and it's added no rasp at all, you just hear the turbo spool up more through the exhaust. Obvioulsy this is only in use off road as to use a de-cat on the public highway would be terrible and a sure fire way to have Bill Oddie come round to shout things through your letterbox
