hi,
Family member has a 2004 A3 1.6 fsi sport with the 6 speed tiptronic gearbox fitted (not dsg)
anyone know what the story is with servicing this gearbox? Is there an oil change interval, what oil is used and is there a filter to be changed? Any particular procedure to be followed when carrying out the oil change also,

Any help appreciated,thanks.

Hi,

Audi state its sealed for life and a gearbox never needs servicing. However Audi warantee cars untill 60k which to them is their lifeterm of a car. I personally think it should be serviced at some point between 80 and 100k, can't imagine oil lasting so long.
I'm my manual it states that I have the service done every 40k.
I had mine done at 40k and It will be done again at 80.

thanks stue,
i would be of the same thinking regarding manual gearbox oil changes, ive always replaced the gearbox oil in all of my cars ,all these were manuals though and its my first experience with this tiptronic box. i think the dsg,s reqire servicing at about 40K generally so i cant imagine the tiptronic a lot different? cant seem to find decent info online about this box re servicing though?

I did a fair bit of research and and came to the conclusion that if your box hadn't been services then don't bother but get it done around 100k but if it was done, then keep on servicing it every 40k.
It's not cheap to, oil, gaskets and Labour I think is around £450 to £500. Got this coming up in 10k.
Another is finding a specialist to do it and do the job to spec.

Going back a number of years I remember the A8 guys having Tiptronic problems. Audi ( and a number of independants) answer was a new box... however a change of oil ( in fact several changes of oil and filters) usually resulted in non,working/poorly working boxes being returned to good order.
I change the 'box and rear diff oil in our A4s every 40k , never mind what Audi says, oil is cheap and easy to do yourself, even if you pay somebody else it is cheaper than problems !!.
